I don't get it...I mean if there is a market why will they not make them? Or do they only want the thousands type market. We just do not buy enough I guess. I wonder what the cost is to set up the shop equipment to make these?

Because there really isn't a market. Half a dozen guys on an owner's website does not equal a market.

My guess is that even for $2k+ Yamiya barely makes a profit, because if there was money to be made then they would offer more for sale.

Put me down for a set. I bet there is more of a market for those pipes than some believe.

OK..I am going to tell you all the exact information on how to get these remanufactured.
Get in contact with Pacific Metal Stamping in Burbank California. They will own the stamping dies. Or you can own them.
You need to make a clear agreement about that.
There is a woman there that is a expert at doing this. Forget her name.
Her husband worked there and died and she stayed on.

Have the pieces ready to go.

Then you will need to make a jig or fixture so they can be welded together.
Then they will need plating.
You could use Scientific Plating in Oakland Ca.

The last 5 sets of Lotus Roots style. They only came on the first few hundred (not sure of the SN range) 69's. They will continue to make and sell "no-no's".

Would someone have to get licensing rights from Honda to produce the pipes?

There is no law that you cannot make your own mufflers.

IF you copy the Stock HONDA mufflers and offer them for sale as a business then you
need legal advice.

The yamiya nono's are sold out too. They were listed at $1682, although out of stock.  I was thinking they were $1800 when they first made nono's.

What are the repops at David silver spares? Same thing?
I did E mail Yamiya asking about a set.

That would be nice. It would be good to see the price back around $1200 maybe that was for the standard 300's.
On any of my other bikes I'm good with a header but the sandcast needs stock pipes again.

Ok, so Yamiya and DSS both say they will have pipes in stock soon. Apparently the ones not being made again are the lotus root for the really early sandcasts which are still avaliable anyway. I was getting the vibe there weren't going to be any more of any of them.
The way I understood it was Yamiya went to Honda's original manufacturer and made a run of the 300's and then the nono's  that was the last bunch everyone was selling. Maybe there were 341's made too.
Does any of this sound plausable?

They routinely make the no-no's which are essentially the same as 300's without any stampings. They have made 3 (I think) runs of Lotus Roots that were inspired by group buys (minimum 20 sets) from the guys on the Sandcast Only forum. They have never made any 341's that I am aware of.

Honda uses various sub contractors to produce some of their parts and/or tooling. Yamiya claims to have been the contractor that made the tooling for the original pipes. I believe this tooling is now being used in the Viet Nam shop due to cheaper labor rates. I also think that Yamiya and DSS are both getting their parts made in that shop.

The new DSS body kits, tanks, covers, and ears, are identical to Yamiya's only at a slightly higher price.

I sure wish we had some pictures of all three of those pipe styles cut in half to really check out the internals. Thought the Lotus pipe had basically no internal chambers just a baffle, where the HM300 may of had possibly 3 and still used a real baffle and then the HM341 that had 5 chambers and basically no baffle besides just the 'diffuser' end cap.
Maybe Hondaman can clarify that a little bit---Whoo Hoo you out there  :D

I hope I'm not hijacking the line but i would like to know what people are doing to repair and or maintain existing pipes.

I have a set hanging in my shop 341s with baffles and reasonably solid. They have holes but don't rattle. I got them with a 1972 cb 750 I bought last summer with a 4 into 2.

I was planning to take them around to local welders. With all the talent here, i'd like some advice.

I also have a set of 341s on my 1974. Solid not rusted( embarrassed by my truly remarkable deal)  and I want to preserve them. I have considered stuff like immersing the mufflers in cylinders full of evapo rust.

Any thoughts-- should this be a new line of thinking?

Be well all---

Acollin,

One of the members here used a 50gallon barrel and did the electrolytic treatment for an exhaust set, might be worth trying, then spray the  inside with the high temp exhaust liner from eastwood. Ifelectrolysis is out of the question, then a small pump and running stream of rust dissolver , ay work.

You may need to remove the carbon before treatment would work.

Wonder if all that cleaning etc may actually make what's left of the pipe eventually go bad faster in the future. We see how a freshly cleaned gas tank can quickly rust again if not treated. Two stroke exhausts hold up well because of all the gunk built up inside, same principle may apply to a certain extent to 4 stroke pipes.

I wonder if spraying the inside of the pipes with fogging spray would help preserve the insides every winter.

I passed buying a set of 341s when everyone was having chrome issues! I decided to wait. What a mistake. Ill buy a set if they make a return 300s/ 341s I don't care.

I saw a comment on this forum a while back and someone recommended putting a little 2 cycle oil in your tank every now and then. His reasoning was back in the day how many 2 strokers did you see with rusted out pipes. Yes things that make you go hmmm??

Good point hall. I don't know if the fogging oil would just sit on top of the carbon in the pipe or if it would really help?

Seafoam is the miracle cure, maybe it would absorb into the carbon and prevent rust. I recently soaked some carb bowls with seafoam. It did loosen the flakes of dried gas but nothing dissolved like it did with laquer thinner.
I don't think fogging the pipes can hurt them.
There was a chopper shop in town that started every new bike with a little choke, 6-7 times and shut it off before the pipes got hot. The theory was, a small carbon layer in the pipes would keep them from blueing.
