I wonder if spraying the inside of the pipes with fogging spray would help preserve the insides every winter.
I saw a comment on this forum a while back and someone recommended putting a little 2 cycle oil in your tank every now and then. His reasoning was back in the day how many 2 strokers did you see with rusted out pipes. Yes things that make you go hmmm??

It may have been Terry? He suggested it to me for my new Z1 pipes.
Is it a coincidence that my '73 RD350 [2 stroke] pipes are in great cond?
I think not...

The problem maybe with fogging the pipes would be getting the actual material into all the chambers that are built in as its not just a simple little straight pipe, especially the 341's. That's why some have a death rattle to them because a chamber has broke up. Did anybody back in the day ever pour any brake fluid or such down the carb of your car to give it a little 'Tune-up" Remember all that smoke if you did. Maybe the best way to fog them would be through the carbs   ;)

This was taken back in March at the new F1 race track in Austin.  My brother races SCCA cars and I was there as crew, used the RD as my pit bike.
I'll be back there in two weeks for the F1 race.

The biggest killer of our pipes is not getting them hot enough to burn off condensation. There is always a layer of carbon inside which likely would prevent fogging from actually protecting the steel. Keep the drain holes open & clean too.

Can anyone tell me, why the #2 muffler always seems to be the muffler that gets #$%*ed up the most? A friend of mine and I both have early 750s, and both of our #2 mufflers are just messed up. All the other pipes are mint.

Number 2 pipe sits the lowest when on the kickstand.  everything heads that way.

I've put oil straight down new pipes before installing.   rotated every direction imaginable over and over before letting them drain.
I've heard that the heat when first starting them up will kinda cook the oil to the inside surface of the pipe - helping to preserve them.

It does smoke like a house on fire for a bit.   I've never actually cut any pipes apart to see if it works.   My bikes are alwasy inside and out of any
weather as well.

I hope somebody has some soon.  Got a resto waiting on some new pipes.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

That's the same basic theory behind 'seasoning' a cash iron skillet. Cast iron is more porous, but basically the oil gets baked into the pores of the metal and created a thin barrier on the outside.

So............if anyone is interested, my brother-in-law has a solid set of HM341 pipes that I found for him about 5 years ago.  They have good shields, nearly new caps and of course have no dents, scrapes or rust.  They were hanging in dry storage when I found them.  Asking price is $1600...............reasonable offers accepted.  Pics are available.

Please contact: kevin@scramblercycle.com for pics and shipping cost.  He will have the complete K4 in a day or two. The complete bike is for sale at $4,500. It has an 836-kit.

P.S. Always use the center-stand unless its for a quick burger & a beer.

So the sandcast started for the first time in a few years tonight, the 4 into 2 hooker sounds awesome and at a glance looks like it may have grown there. Until there are stock pipes, it will do.

I know that the pipes are expensive but what about ceramic coating the inside before using them, that would help....{and add to the already stupid cost}  :o ;)

I never considered welding up an old set but I hear of more and more guys doing it. I  haven't had much luck at patching holes in things because there was nothing to weld to.  Feel free to shoot me a PM if you think it's a realistic project.
