'78 CB550 Main Center Stand Installing

Hey guys, does anyone know where the main stand spring and half round plate attach to on the bike? There's obviously a little notch on the stand but where under the bike? I'm thinking this thing (see photo) but I'm struggling to put it on. Just making sure I'm aiming for the right place.

You have it right.  There are few ways you can install it.

Ok, got it. One must use leverage and believe in one's self. I feel like I should be leveling up right now after having completed that.

What worked for me was to install the hinge pin last.

Some folks tie a wide cotton shoelace in a loop, hook it on the end of the spring and use that to stretch it on and others swear by bending the spring momentarily at the coils and inserting as many pennies as needed between the coils to temporarily lengthen it. Then you grab the pennies with pliers and remove.

I lost skin installing these before I sought out better technique and tools :'(

Ha, thanks guys. If I ever need to do it again I'll try the hinge last technique. I just used brute strength...and by that I mean awkwardly pulling a now curved screwdriver.
