Info on CR750 oil tank.
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:29:19 PM »
I have looked high and low, but cannot find any info on the oil tank for the CR750.

What are it's dimensions?
What is it's internal layout?
What do you call that bolt-on bung on the side?
Are there any good pics of one mounted without a lot of stuff in the way?

I can get close enough in dimension with a good pic of one, going off of my frame.
As for internals, I want to see if there are baffles, or any anti-foam measures Honda used, and if there is a need for windage over the vent tubes.

I would be grateful if anyone can point me to a source for answers.

Thanks!

Check out Erics thread if you think you can figure the measurements from pictures.
I tried to measure mine for someone but it was nigh on impossible.

Here's a few pics of my oil tank. I've since replaced the Monza cap with a similar one to that seen on the Daytona70 site. I cut the neck from a standard CB750 oil tank and inserted it into a short alloy tube welded to the top of the tank. A standard Honda oil cap is then used with the addition of a small piece welded on so you can easily remove it (pics to follow).
There are no baffles within the tank.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the info and pics!

Eric, where did you get the bolt on style bung for the return line? What is it called?

Thanks!

The end fitting for the return oil line to the tank was a standard item that was partly cut through, straightened and welded. Most of the other tanks I've seen have a plate welded on the side of the tank so that the standard fitting can be used and the oil line will clear the tank.

I see that now. I guess I was confusing your tank with the MeadSpeed one in my head. Theirs has the a fitting like on the engine. I guess on mine I will make the relief a little deeper and use an Earl's 90 deg. on there.

Thanks again for all the info and help!
