Hello all,

I've been a member on here since 2005, I've had a lot of fun working on and riding this bike over the last 8 years.

I purchased a bit of a running basket case... and got the bike running and have made some big changes along the way.

I've installed FZR600 Wheels, brakes, and front forks,  the Wheels rotors and rubber weighed 50lbs less than the stock
setup!

I rebuilt the engine after having a valve break.  Using a spare bedroom I replaced the conrods, pistons swapped the head, and have had a trouble free engine (although I have a minor leak due to a not so repaired engine case from what I guess is a chain break incident. 

Replaced mismatched side covers with reproductions, changed the tail light, signals, bars.

One thing I've never been able to do a decent job of is paint!  My bike has had at least 3 paint jobs by yours truly, but I just dont have the touch!



I just turned 35, and I'm recovering from a broken hip, as a treat to myself I'm taking this winter to freshen up the old girl, and get the bike painted "For REAL"  clean up some things that I've had on the to-do list for a while and hopefully both the bike and I will be ready for spring!

Thanks, its a 2000 ZRX1100,

For when the speed of the CB isn't quite enough I cheat with the Z!  at just shy of 130hp it makes passing cars much MUCH easier!

Here's a shot of the "NEW" tank I found at a bike salvage dealer in Northern BC!

inside looks like its brand new, there was 4 different paint jobs on this thing and I thought I'd find a bunch of bondo and dents, but to my suprise this tank was in pretty clean shape under all that old paint!

I much prefer the muffler at the less extreme angle.

Thanks,  Ya I was trying to make it a little too much like a 90's style Super sport with that angle!  I'm looking into a stainless system from MotoGPwerks.

The colors are going to be similar to the stock, black, with red stripe, but outlined in silver instead of gold.

I think I get to pick up the parts today! I got this as a sneak preview today!

Can you share some info about the getting the wheels and front forks to work.  It is unbelievable how heavy the stock ones are.

So today I pulled out the battery tray out of the bike, grinded the crap outa rust thanks to the vent tube popping off the battery.

Also welded a bead onto the fork stops.  Way back when I had to grind them down to get a decent amount of steering with the Fzr forks.  However I went a little heavy on the grinder, letting the forks touch the tank at full lock.

With the new paint, I wanted to create a more permanent solution, to prevent any dings.

I got a box of goodies from Vintage CB750,  a fresh new superbike bar, and some not exactly sexy parts, like a Rick reg/rectifiier, and some new rubber grommets for the side covers, and a rubber tank strap.

But I do have some cool new Photos!!

Thanks digger!  I tried painting this thing a few times but was never happy. Glad I sucked it up and paid someone.

This was the first time  I paid someone to work on my bike!

Progress Report!

Its been a while, still in physio, its dam cold in my garage, and I've been collecting some new tools! 

I picked up a bench lathe from an older fellow that used it for his hobby uses, from what I can see on the lathe he turned brass, plastics and wood, not much hard use on it!

So I figured a good first project is making some new stalks for the rear turn signals.  Here's one of the signals with my stalk attached and the 10mm bolt that I hollowed out allowing the wires to go through.

Here's a comparison of the mounting stalk thank came with the signal:

I was able to polish the aluminum up to be a very close match to the finish on the signal body. these will mount on the frame where the grab rail/tool box mount at the back of the bike, and the signals will just be sticking out from the side of the rear cowl.

Real nice on the paint, I will be interested to see it all come back together.
If you don't mind my asking, where did you get your tail light?  I like the way it fits the cowl recess and am sure that it will clean up the lines.

Thanks guys the tail surround is from an Autoparts store brand is grote,  it's a stainless truck led light surround. The surround came with a flush led light but it stuck back way too far into the cowl. I had a plastic surround in there before with the light you see in the photo  I originally bought the light from princess auto. (Think harbour freight ).  I used some L channel aluminum to brace the cowl and support the bottom of the light. As well as providing me a place to mount the plate.

I know not some bespoke one of the kind hand crafted tail light off a vintage lake racer... Just some auto and truck parts I figured would look a lot cleaner than the small lunchbox that honda stuck on the back of these bikes.

It's slow going on putting stuff back together as it's dam cold in the garage! And I've been learning to use my new lathe and mini cnc mill in the basement instead of freezing my ass off in the garage!  That and my wife has had my seat in her sewing room for months, awaiting a new cover.

This bike is reall coming together. The paint came out superb. I really like how the lower line flows to he cowl. The gauges look clean too. Nice!!
