Best Compliment
« on: November 01, 2013, 10:01:51 AM »
What would be the best compliment you have gotten about your motorcycle?

I don't ride much but when I go out I usually get looks and comments from people with $20K+ builds, girls taking photos etc. Those are nice but the best compliment I've gotten was from a 7-8 year old kid giving me huge thumbs up the entire way I was going up the street! That had me grinning  ;D

I think it was when I had my Enfield and a cabbie stopped at a red light got out of his car and came back to talk to me about it.

In 1975, I had a tangerine flake K2, really clean with a chrome Kerker pipe. (Same bike I now have but it's been way changed up by now).

I was taking a class at ASU and parked it in the lot. When I came out there was a 1/4 square sliver of a notebook page, torn out, with the words "Nice Bike!" on it, tucked under the seat strap.

Still have that paper.

+1, maybe a few times a year  a youngster will see me riding and get very excited... waving, running around, making engine noises, pretending to ride...this always makes me very happy

Yeah, young children seem to be attracted to chrome.  :)
A guy came up to me in a filling station and asked was my bike new. ::) When I told him how old it was he said "magnificent machine, it's a credit to you."

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Did 'she' leave her phone number?  ;)

I usually get the compliments at gas stops. Most are very surprised when I mention the year and mine is hardly a full, or accurate restore. Maybe some day, but right now I would classify it as decent and presentable.  ::)

One day I guy came by my shop to drop off a poster for an upcoming World of Wheels show. I was wearing a leg cast rom a bad break. I told him I was working on my bike but didnt know if I could finish it in time. He said try.
So I flogged and barely got done in time, some very long nights, got it in the show.
I ended up getting best Bike.. At the trophy presentation the poster guy says, arent you glad you decided to put it in?... Was I ever..it is the red bike..

Here's what happens to me  a lot it seems, cops love our bikes. During the Atlanta Distinguished Gentlmans' Ride recently, one pulled his bike into the lot where we were parked and went on on on about the 750's he had owned. You meet the nicest people on a Honda as they say!

I stopped at an intersection and a cop had the right of way to proceed from my left.  He turned my way and stopped beside me. Gave me a big thumbs up and said my bike was the coolest one he had seen all summer.  Made my day.

The conversations always seem to start with: Man, I (or a buddy, bro, etc.) used to have one of those...'cept his was that (purple, olive, orange, red etc.) color. What year is that?. Man, that's a beautiful bike. Wish I still had mine....That thing was FAST ;D
The cool factor is still there, the same as when the bikes were new.

Riding home last note, stopped at the light.
Soccer mom van on my left with a curly haired little girl with a big grin.
She yelled out "I like your bike".
Gave her a thumbs up.
But it was her grin that stayed with me.

A harley owner stopped at a light asked what year mine was, he gave a thumbs up. Often someone who has owned one will comment or tell me about the one out in the shed.  (that's when my wife wants to go)

I was at a gas station in Connecticut. Stopped to fill her up, empty my tank and get a drink. As I was gassing up 3 Hells Angels pulled in. and stopped at the same bank of pumps. I tried to look inconspicuous. They got off their bikes and walked around mine and were talking like I was not there pointing at things and walked away. As I was putting on my helmet, one guy said "ride safe Brother".  I am not sure that was a compliment, it was a relief!

I was riding over the Lions Gate bridge and noticed a stunning Porsche as I continued along. A mile or two later, I pulled in for gas. I'm pumping away and this guy comes over and starts complimenting me on my bike. He puts this big smile on my face and walks away. As he's leaving, I glance over and see him getting into his running Porsche. It was quite the complement that he pulled in just to get a better look at the bike.

Cute isn't how I want my bike described.

Not really a compliment...I was at a bar and showed a girl a picture of my '74 CB125. "Oh that's so cute!" she said. That month I bought my 550 and here I am.
