Not really great iphone photos, but I wanted to give you guys something before I went back to work. Honestly, I've pretty much just been riding the ural for the last three weeks

With the clip ons and the pull on the Mikuni's, the bike is pretty tiresome on the hands and forearms. I picked up an R100 motor for the ural, and will rebuild it this winter...might be a full build, or just the entire drive train, we shall see.

The bike aka Ruby looks amazing finished. Congratulations. She's a beauty. I really like the unique, stripped GSX-R forks.

Is there anything left to shakedown, or is she fully broken in?

Your clipons aren't mounted too low. I'm surprised it's fatiguing to ride. Must be the added grunt pulling your arms off.

Keep an eye out for a BOTM nomination next month.

Tews, the rim is just a regular Excel aluminum rim, I think they retail for around $230 for anything narrower than 3" on the width.

Lady, the oil cooler is a Pro One single pass unit. It seems to be doing the job, but i haven't had any extreme riding temps yet. It's paired with a thermostatic valve mounted above the oil filter.

Don, I still had a leak in the oil tank, which I pulled off to have repaired today. I put about 100 miles on the setup, and other than the oil tank, performs flawlessly. The frontend is more than I could ever out perform. It's much more forgiving than the stock with progressive springs. Brakes are to die for (pun intended). Riding position is good, except for my forearms...almost exactly like a sportbike. I'll be looking at getting some Converti-bars and some cushioned grips. I wish there was a solution to the heavy throttle on the Mikuni's.

Can you remind us what size wheels and shock length you are using? It looks like you are running 18" wheels with stock to slightly over length shocks. What is the handling like? Any twitchiness?

More cushioned grips may help. You might also check out Woodcraft. They make high quality clip ons, and they have riser clip-ons, too. Wheels are 18" front and rear. Shock in the rear are the hagon 13.75" units, I believe. No adverse handling quirks...it's a very nice ride. I like the woodcrafts.

I took a closer look at your throttle -- looks like a Motion Pro. Is there an option that allows a longer turn to make the bike less on/off at lower speed?

There's a smaller cam, but it doesn't really matter. It's the spring load on the return side of the throttle that sucks.

That looks magnificent Seth, a real high quality build. It's a pity about the clipon's, my poor old back is buggered, so I can't ride anything with clipons for more than a few miles nowadays. Have you thought about modifying your top triple to take a pair of handlebar clamps?

Or if that's too drastic, maybe do something like I've got on my old Yamaha FJ1200, with the standard "clip on style" bars mounted above the top triple? Just raising the bars an inch or two really makes the difference between having the bike you like to look at, as opposed to the bike you like to ride.

The convertibars seem to have a much greater range of adjustment than riser clipons.

Those bars look great Seth, and should take a fair bit of weight off your wrists too. I wonder if you can get weaker springs for your carbs too? I had a look at some RS34's online and I don't think it'd be easy, but maybe?

You would have loved those 34mm CV's I had on my gold bike, the throttle pull was so light, it was actually lighter than the throttle on my injected bikes. Glad to see that you've scored an R100 engine for your Urinal too, that should make it get up and go! Cheers, Terry.

I'd love for my throttle pull to be easier. Historically speaking, I'm pretty much a hater of CV carbs, unless they're in top condition. Really, it was an entire two years of futzing around with a set of BS38's that were on an XS650 I owned. I could never get them right. Everytime I try and think about CV carbs, it's like trying to wrap my brain around drive by wire. If it doesn't have a direct link to the throttle plate...well, you get the idea

Fuel injection is even worse.
I keep wondering if anyone (someone with financial means) is gonna explore the idea of re-racking a set of FCR carbs to these bikes. I'm not even sure they make a four carb bank that would be small enough for our displacement. One of the Rieck big bores might be able to get away with it? Roller bearing slides soothe my hands just thinking about them!
I think I'll order a set of the woodcrafts, as I'm not feeling particularly flush with cash to buy those converti bars at the moment, and maybe a set of gel grips. My cb360 is sold, and the cash is being appropriated for the wintertime Urinal project. I'll miss that 360.

You can get the FCR's racked for the 750's in Japan Seth, i think you'll have to sell a kidney though if i remember the prices correctly. I'll see if i can find the link...

Couldn't find the FCR's {will keep looking} but I found the Mikuni TMR's for the 750...
