Great build.  How did I miss this! I will go through your thread but I am curious about the front wheel mount. What was the process?
1. Buy hub that's designed for GSX-R front end.
2. Lace it to the old rear rim.
3. Bolt on the GSX-R rotors.
4. Put it in the forks like it was made to go there.  Because it was.
Life is precious: wear your f'n helmet!
There's nothing more expensive than a free bike...
FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

What he said. Some guys are running 17" front wheels... I'm not sure my stator cover would survive.

Syc- I thought gsxr wheels are not spoked.... I am sure I could buy cognito's hub but the price is to much. I will follow Socomoto path for adapting the gsxr axle to a harley hub.

Like this?

http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/gasket-makers/permatex-ultra-copper-maximum-temperature-rtv-silicone-gasket-maker-detail

I honestly never knew they made this.

No, the stuff on my Triumph is clear Seth, but if you can't find it I suppose the Ultra-Copper would be OK, I used some blue RTV silicon sealant when I installed the "Luftmeister" pipe on my BMW K100RS, and it stunk for the first couple of rides, but now the stench has gone, it's still sealing well. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You don't need to buy the special hub mate, but to make a CB750 hub work with a later model front end, you'll need to get some adapter plates made to match the hub to the new brake discs, modify the speedo drive (if you're going to run the OEM speedo) and either change the wheel bearings or modify the new axle to make it fit the CB750 hub.

Here's a pic of "Goldie" with the Yamaha FZR1000 41mm forks, brake rotors and calipers mated to my K2 frame and front hub, laced into a wider 18" alloy rim. It all worked very well, but there was a fair bit of machining involved to make it work. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, that looks awesome. It looks like a factory fit, what was the reason for FZR front end, did it fit well or was it just handy at the time?

Thanks mate, I bought it as a crashed wreck, the PO is a guy called Ken Piper who is an old race-bike builder and mechanical engineering lecturer, who crashed it at 60 MPH and destroyed pretty much everything except the frame, engine and triple trees.

He'd done a magnificent job machining the billet triples for the Yam forks, so I just found a straight set of tubes and re-used them. The bike had done several somersaults, destroying the forks, headlight, gauges, bars, seat, fenders, fuel tank, oil tank, handlebars, levers, switchblocks, footpegs etc. I found the speedo needle under the cam chain tensioner! Ken tore off both of his kneecaps in the process, and when I bought the wreck, he'd only been walking again for a few weeks after almost a year on crutches.

So my contribution really was just a cosmetic resto, the only bits I machined were the brackets for the front fender. I did do a GSXR front end conversion on a Suzy GS1000 a few years prior and that worked well, especially after I had some special screw in fork tube extensions machined to lengthen the forks by 3 inches.

Here's a couple of pics I took when I picked up the bike, that's Ken sitting on it with his newly repaired knees. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, 'Golidie" looks amazing and goes as good as she looks I'm sure. Well done sir!

Seth, your build is looking killer too. I'm in the midst of a front end conversion myself. I have to wait on the spoked front conversion though, I'd like the Cognito hub setup laced to my stock front wheel but it's steep pricewise, for me anyway. So I'll be running the stock mag wheel this season. I know, I knoowww..... :( LOL

Mmmmmm...butter.

This is how much I bevel the edges on a stock boot to install the RS34's.

They're in! Much easier with a friend. I just about gave myself a hernia putting them in solo :-/

Those Mikuni's really are sexy looking carbs, I wish now that I hadn't pulled the trigger on a set of CR31's for my bike after I had a biatch of a time with my CR29's, but the only good thing is that they're much easier to install and remove than the Mikuni's.

I've just received a set of OEM K7/8 rubbers, so when I get around to it I'll install the CR's and hope they're easier to tune to my engine than the 29's were. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I've often thought about grabbing a CR rack for comparison. Anybody wanna send me a set to check out? ;) I'll send 'em back to you with a six pack after I've made my conclusions. I wouldn't have been able to fine tune my carbs as much as I have, without the use of my wideband O2 sensor...it's almost cheating.
