Another solution, but it ain't cheap - swap your triples for a set of Devin's new increased offset - back to stock. That should give you clearance.

Seriously, I gotta step away from the 750 for a little while, a it's taken over my spare time the last two years. I'll revisit the whole situation in the spring. I still wish I could get great photos of that paint...it's just so deep. In the meantime, I've been bombing around on the Urinal (as Terry likes to call it!). It's a hoot to ride! I just picked up this motor to swap into it.
I gotta at least re-seal the top end and clean it up. Hoping the bottom end is good. Has about 50k on it.

That's a nice looking lump of an engine Seth, and even if the big end bearings are shot (I'll bet the mains are still good though) it's not a big job to change them. What are you gonna run for carbs? Cheers, Terry.

Terry, I've had good luck with mikuni vm's on all the honda twins, I may try that route. I could go after a set of bings but...$$$$.

Stock Bings are pretty available, Seth. It's the DelOrto's that'll break you! If you need a set, let me know. I'll work on the guys locally who are doing the engine work on my boxer. They owe me some favors and are very good/decent guys. In fact, just got my Bings fully rebuilt and polished up in regrade for some parts to them. Gotta love the barter system!

Yeah mate, I'm not a fan of Bing's, but Mikuni's are great carbs and cheap to buy new. There's probably a kit available, or else Murray Feldman in NC could do a kit for you? Cheers, Terry.

It's the "Devil you know, versus the Devil you don't..." scenario, Terry. The horrors that little pooch of Don's may inflict have me shuddering in the corner, whereas at least the Dropbear will finish me off instantly amid a flurry of razor sharp claws and gnashing teeth. But, what if my friends saw me driving about with that "pup" of Don's! The horror of ridicule endlessly following me to my grave! Every time I turn up in the checkout line at the grocery, the snickering, the finger pointing, the hushed tones with eyes bearing down on my back... I wouldn't be able to bear it out. Like being water boarded with sour milk.

I imagine you will get an appreciable power gain going from the Ural 750 to the R100 motor - an approximate 160% increase according to factory specs at the crank (70 vs 44).

I haven't had much experience with BMW flatheads, other than riding my buddy's R50/5.  It takes some getting used to when you rev the motor and feel the gyroscopic effect pull the bike to one side.  I'm sure you will feel it more with the larger R100 motor.  If you don't mind, post some pics of the BMW/Ural build as it progresses.

That gyro is mostly due to the output shaft being on the right side, tied to the right-sided final drive. Also, the cylinders are offset front-to-rear increasing this gyro. Like righthanded rifling in a pistol actually. That is why many of their bikes came with dampers I'm told. Deceleration and the gyro, hmmm, interesting steering effects.

I wonder if the two-wheel drive of the side car combined with the weight of the side car balances that gyro effect.
