CB650 Petcock Assembly
« on: October 27, 2013, 11:49:01 AM »
Just in the last stages of finishing re-building my US Imported 1981 CB650 Custom  and have hit a snag. The old tank was badly rusted so I found a replacement that looks identical. I've had it resprayed and have now found that the original petrol cock assembly has a larger thread than the outlet on the tank. The outlet on the new (replacement) tank has an external diameter of 18mm and internal diameter of 10mm. Does anyone know what petcpck assembly will fit?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer

They changed to the larger petcock on the 81-82 models. You will also need to adapt the fuel line from the 5/16" of the new petcock down to the 1/4" of the carb inlet.

Sounds like you got a 80 tank.   They have the smaller bungs usually.  From the several I have owned it looks like it was a crap shoot on bung/petcock and fuel line sizes.   A 79 petcock should work to.   But then you will need to adapt the fuel line size.
