Roland,

Sorry for the extra questions but I am really interested in this style of convertible seat.

1. How did you construct the seat to accommodate the fasteners without creating something that will compromise the durability of the upholstery or catch on your thighs as you shift/move in the seat to turn?

2. How do you secure the tail of the cowl so it does not rattle against the frame hoop?

What a great job you did there Roland!  I have a question, do either of your F model bikes leak much oil at all? I have mine apart again for the second time after just 1800 miles, very minor oil making its way to the fins, its not the pucks, its something else..trying to find some tips on here for more of  a leak proof-ish assembly.

No problem, I welded 2 small tabs to the seat pan a little inside from the edge.  That way there could be a little foam between the tabs and the leather.  Where the tabs are placed you wouldn't sit, they are between the passenger and the driver.  If you did have the cowl off and were riding solo you would have to slide back to a pretty uncomfortable position in order to feel the tabs, but you would feel them if you sat on them.

The cowl has a consistent 1/16 reveal to the hoop.  no matter how hard you press on it, it will not touch the hoop anywhere.  Once in place and locked on it doesn't move so there is no reason to make it attach at the rear.

I hope that helps!

My 78 does not leak at all, the 77 is being assembled now so hopefully I don't have any issues with it!  Tweakin may have some tips, he has also built 77 and 78 f's.

So the cowl is off to get painted and I now have all the needed parts for my motor.  I had a chance yesterday to assemble the trans and get the cases put back together.  I feel like I am now in a race with the weather here in Colorado, every day that it gets above 60 I start to panic a little.

Plastigauge was good

Cases together and gear shift drum/stopper assembled

Ready for top end!

Roland what is the DSG ride from that picture? I'm originally from St. Louis but now live up in Woodland Park. STL has a vintage bike night that meets at a brewery every month or so. When I lived there I didn't have a motorcycle. Now that I do I'd love to find others with similar bikes.

Awesome to hear from someone near me!  The vintage scene here is few and far between.  That is from the DSG Denver last year.  I'm hoping to put a DSG ride together in CS this year if we can find enough riders.  I live in Manitou so we will have to hook up soon.

WTF??!! How have I missed this? Glad you included Colorado Springs in your title now. Guess this makes 5 of us here in the Springs. How did that happen and where does everyone hide? You guys met Jeremy and Keith yet?

You boys up for a meet and ride? As soon as my oil pump goes back in the 900 goes back in the frame and I'm ready. Perhaps by next weekend. May need a little help lifting the engine off the bench and installing it. Nothing like the smell of a new engine breaking in  ;D

Who's doing your powder, Spectrum? I used them for the engine and another guy for the frame. You up for a frame kit weld job? Gotta start my second one, a 1000 and I'd like to get Gordon's kit installed then start the engine. Need to choose a cam and get another crank done them I'm ready for #2.

Give me a call 963-3080.

Jerry

I have seen your name and tag line before and never noticed that you are from CS.  I know Keith, I met him at the DSG Denver ride last summer.  Lets get together!

I can definitely help you out with putting the motor in and we can talk about the frame kit welding.

I quit using Spectrum, I get pissed when people raise their prices every time you come in.  If your not bringing them a bicycle frame they don't seem to want your business.

I finally got it out on the road for a break in ride.  I have been chasing jetting issues only to find out that the problem was the way my fuel lines were routed.  Once I corrected the fuel line route I had to go back to the original jetting and start over.  I still have a flat spot mid throttle but I am getting close.  I will try to post some pictures today of the finished product!
