Wow that is surprising but that article just leaves me with more questions than answers. Be neat to know more details like where its been, how it was sold to the Jap buyer, like maybe E-bay etc and are stolen bikes really in the system still from that long ago. Sure it looks different than the day it was stolen I bet, owner should be surprised and pleased.

The owner,  poor basterd, worked  to put food on his poor mothers table and took a third job to get the bike of his dreams. Then to find that it was stolen from his own back yard, Tearfully standing in the void where it was once parked on that fateful day 46 years ago he vowed never to own another bike and  have his his heart broken again .
He has never owned another machine since, only a glance at any motorbike, even out of the corner of his eye seemed to be enough to water his eyes and cloud  his vision. He felt this pain for 10, 20  and even 30 years later.
And finally 46 years has past , and the Highway patrol tracks down the owner, now 93 years old , and  presents him with his long lost love.
The owner , now in a wheel chair was brought to the back yard where his pride and joy once sat patiently waiting for it's owner to take it for a ride and this time it was there. It was there again waiting for him. Tearfully the old man shook the smiling officers hands and sat for the picture for the local paper seemingly unable to speak  until one officer asked the old  man" What do you think?"  And the old man wiped the tears from his eyes looked up and said"What the fock would I do with that?"

Damfino entered a second before I did
I needed more info too , the story was too shallow, so I made this one up just to fill it in.
According to the real story,The real guy was so upset , he started riding Harleys

Ekpent: I didn’t think the bike would be in the system after 46 years. Since the recovery was at the federal level, perhaps the feds retain the records that aren’t normally kept at the state level. ???

Damfino: Good detective work! Thanks for the link as it helps fill in more details. ;)

RB550four: I can picture your imaginative “fill in” story. ;D
