So, slow goin around here, stupid root canal slowed me and the budget down a bit!

So today got the final satin clear on swing arm and battery box, first coat of red on front wheel, finished blasting and first coat of prime on battery box and frame, finished lapping and cleaning valves with new guide seals. Two of the three I lapped today still leaked a bit. I'm gonna recheck them soon cause none of the other ones did and I used the exact same process. So once I double check valves motor is ready for assembly and then soon going to order the bad*ss white walls to get this pup into a roller asap!! Then hopefully a few details and then would love to be riding by end of summer!! Here are some pics, hope everyone is having a great summer so far!!

Not alot of progress lately, had to get the house ready for a BBQ this past weekend so now its time to get some more work done. I am having a hell of a time removing the old rings from the pistons!!!! I tried boiling them in simple green tonite with no success. I threw em in freezer for a long shot. Any ideas??

Also got some more paint work done today, swingarm and battery box got final coats, one more to go on the front wheel and got a base coat on oil tank and primed the rear spocket and cover. Hoping to put a second coat on frame in next few days as i want to get this back to a roller asap. Next is to clean up the front forks and trees and get them ready for paint too, I have limited room on my paint rack so need to finish a few other parts first. Hope all is good with everyone!

Haven't updated for a long time! Sorry, this summer has been insanely hot here and no AC in shop makes it limited time to work. So last night I FINALLY made progress, got the piston rings out of the old pistons and borrowed my brothers cut off wheel to cut the rear part off the frame. Now of course I start a 96 hr stretch at work tonite, ouch! Anyway hope to start rollin downhill soon!! Hope everyone is well, I will try to snap some progress pics soon!!

Got new rings on pistons finally and got the motor 98% ready for rebuild!! Is it advisable to reuse the rubber pucks? Got the rear of the frame cut off too and just waiting for some non humid weather to do some more painting! Has anyone used the changeover screw kits they sell online? Was thinking about upgrading to those? Gettin pretty excited to start reassembly, any tidbits would be appreciated! I measured the frame as well to see which style of sporty tank will fit the easiest. Also does the battery tray mount directly under the seat? Here are some pics, feedback appreciated!!

Ok, finally have some real progress to report, got the rings on pistons, pistons back on, jugs back on, head back on, and just waiting for a torque wrench to button things up!! Also got the frame painted too and it turned out awesome. Now ready to button up the motor, powerwash, paint and reinstall!! Need to orders tires, handlebars and sporty tank too but one day at a time, just thrilled I got off my ass and got some work done! Hope everyone is good!

Wow, been a year! Well if anyone cares I have made some progress. I tend to move very slow I guess! So got the motor all buttoned up and cleaned and painted, turned out pretty nice I have to say! Got a sporty tank in and got it mocked up but having some petcock issues, hopefully resolved soon. Whitewalls are in! Just need to get them mounted soon and I am hoping to have front and rear end reinstalled asap!! Slow and steady right? Got a set of ape hangers and lowering blocks so good to go there. Really just have carbs to deal with and wiring etc to do. I will add some pics soon, hope at least someone thinks this is cool when its all said and done!

My bad, do you know what it is off of? I just know I liked the look of the peanut style tank. Got it off a guy on CL

Its either a peanut tank or an axed tank. The axed means originally they cut the inside parts off a set of fatbobs, the welded the two pleces together..

It doesn't appear to be welded together at any point so I will assume it's a peanut tank. I believe the style is also called a San Fransisco? I just liked the look and I think it fits well so far!

It looks to be a frisco tank the gas hole is moved forward and the tunnel looks to be shallow just the way it sits on the bike. Are the pet cocks moved back if so then it's a frisco it's for more fuel is why those where made. Good looking progress on it.

Thanks! The petcock doea sit back. It has given me problems cause the petcock hole sits right against the frame so I am putting a 3/8" npt to 1/4" id tube barb to hook fuel line to and im gonna put an inline shutoff and hide it under the tank. Having to order an new oil tank has slowed me up a bit this week but its progress!

Update, got the front end put together for the most part, started sand blasting the tank and put the rear end back on minus the wheel obviously. I still need to blast the rear wheel but I got in all the tubes and stuff for the whitewalls!! Slow and steady but this pic gets me excited as to how it's gonna turn out!

Just caught up with your build. What media are you using in your blaster? You keep mentioning it goes slowly. Either you're using the wrong media or your compressor is too small and won't keep up with the spray pressure.

Also, are you using a separate blaster for soda than your sand?

I'm kind of late to the party, BUT, I'd strongly encourage you to true your wheels before painting the spokes. if they have to be tried after painting, especially the nipples, the finish will crack. Next time de-lace, strip, paint rim, true, then paint your spokes after truing. You'll get the best results and long term results.

Been using Black Oxide from Menards. I use a siphon system and I think my compressor normally keeps up for the most part. I don't know what else to do to make it go quicker. I haven't used soda at all. I don't believe this tank was split at any point, looks to be one piece. Gotta send the carbs out for rebuild after I finally adjust the tappets.
