My First cb550k, update.
« on: August 29, 2006, 03:13:28 PM »
So I bought this 75' cb550k for 400.00, Its been awsome to drive. Its been less than a month and I have put on nearly 400 miles.  I can see myself really taking a liking to motorcycles.  I am using this as my "around town" vehicle and dont want to put too much into it (ha).  I just want it to be reliable.  I dont want to go in over my head as well.

I  have, however had a problem with:

1. -keeping the battery charged.

I have since cleaned all the wires with electrical contact spray, but the bike still doesnt hold its charge.  I have to charge it every couple of days.

2. -gas leak from an overflow tube

I fixed it!  I'm a rookie, I tell ya.  I just adjusted the float and now its all gravy.

3. -the oil light comes on if I am driving the bike for a while, especially on the highway, but then goes off if I rev the engine or after a while when I am not driving on the highway.

I have no clue whats going on there....

4.  I tried to take it as fast as I could today on the highway, only getting it up to 70, full throttle.  I had read that it should hit a bit more.

I am open to suggestions, conversations, and what not

I was looking for a solo seat for that bike, where ca I get them?

welcome!

pics of the scoot are now mandatory.

on the oil light issue, i am struggling with the same right now.  apparently i need a special tool to remove the sending unit and inspect the diaphram that inflates to break the connection when desired pressure is achieved.  it is behind the sprocket cover and is where your blue/red wire terminates.  I have a crazy theory that this only happens when i run the bike hard and then leave the petcock on after shutting down the bike.  i get gas buy a gtorade smoke a cigarette have a conversation with random honda enthusiast- get back o the bike and start having oil light issues.  I have no idea if this is the case, and i have not been able to hook up a guage to see what kind of actual pressure i am getting, so it is hard to test the theory without fear of killing the bike.  right now i have my bike on a kind of motorcycle dialysis and am waiting for the appropriate tools/adapters/information to become available.

this thread is about the same issue,
