Replaced master cylinder but no bushing?
« on: July 21, 2014, 09:12:05 PM »
Hello, I recently bought a master cylinder body on eBay that looked like the one on my 1975 CB550K. I bought a rebuild kit and installed it on my bike. I'm waiting on replacement brake lines so I have not bled it yet. My old master cylinder (mirror threads broke in the mount and couldn't remove them so I'm replacing it) had an extra hole for a bushing that was covered by a small metal piece that mounted to the nut on the brake lever bolt. The replacement master cylinder housing doesn't have that bushing feature. Other than that it seems okay. I don't know what year it came from.

Is it okay  to use this replacement housing?
What's the bushing actually do?

Thanks
T.

The "bushing" is actually a short rubber tube that acts as a cushion for the brake lever. It was used up to the '77 models, when it was discontinued. You may have one of the later MCs where it was eliminated; it should work fine, but you'll have to get a kit for the '77-'78 MC .

It's always best to buy replacement parts for the right model and year. That way you can be sure they'll fit and work correctly. Just "looking right" doesn't always work...
