value of early 70s cb350 in dissassembled form?
« on: September 01, 2006, 12:33:28 PM »
talking to a guy about his early 70s cb350 parts... i say parts because he doesn't have a finished bike. he has enough to make a couple rolling chassis - some NOS spares... many parts - perhaps even enough to make a running bike with.

it's not in top shape, more in long storage shape.

i'm hoping to get some detailed pictures before i get too excited - but just to ballpark the value... what would you guys roughly place the value at? i imagine i could get what he's asking for it out of it if i parted it out - but i'm more interested in making a bike out of it.

Couple hundred tops I'd say.

yeah, it'd have to be cheap to even consider it.  you post and my hesitation makes me want him to come down some from his fairly modest asking price.

i don't mind doing engine work - but i don't want to do another full restore like the one i'm wrapping up on a 750 right now... if it's got good paint and side covers and workable chrome elsewhere... that'd be a big selling point. sourcing and restoring cosmetic stuff gets old fast.

There's a theory: Any complete bike is worth $200...

But a couple of boxes of parts, frames and an engine isn't really a bike. I guess it depends on what all is there, but $200 is about all I'd pay.

YMMV...

assembled and running this bike is barely worth 2-300 dollars

you think assembled and shined up you couldn't get anything near $1k for it?

if true, that's fairly sobering... although i'm generally only concerned with riding and not resale value.  never nice to get ripped off.

i don't believe you can turn a box of parts into a 1000 dollar 350 no. not without putting 2/3 that into it.

you'd be looking at a pristing resto for that kind of resale...

That's the important question, at least as far as the value of a running bike goes.  A good condition 350 Four could easily sell for $1K.  I sold mine about three years ago for $900 and it didn't have the original paint or exhaust.

But a bunch of parts?  Who knows?  How's the tank and sidecovers, and does it come with the stock exhaust?

box of parts is a box of parts. Your angle is that you're saving the guy a bunch of time instead of selling it on ebay. You buy it all at once and get it out of his hair.

A friend of mine always got great deals on used and broken cars just by showing that he had cash and was ready to buy it RIGHT NOW for less than half the asking price. You could get a great deal or you could get mugged. Use your discretion :)
