You can replace the brace farther forwad and retain the structural integrity of the frame. I would lower the seat at the rear (just for looks) I do like the look, no fenders needed 8)

Just got back from a 2 hour ride/excursion into the city, and all is well.
I did a good inspection of everything before and after the ride, and saw no change.
The bike didnt feel any looser or less rigid then before, so I am putting this on the "done" list and moving on the next..
Became a offical member of the Chicago Ton-Up club tonite as well - so yeah for me  ;D

Proteal.
I'm pretty sure you mentioned it before - but where did you get those lights from?
Are they street legal?
The lights are from the Drag Specialties catalogue.
As far as street legal goes, I am not sure. They are sold as "marker" lights, but have a 1157 dual-fillament Bulb in them , and put off a hell of allot of light for how big they are. I have three buddies that have put them on their project bikes, all with great results. I think they were about $30 bucks for the pair, and also came with amber caps as well as the red..

How do you lower the seat ?
I want to lower the seat - i really do.
How do I do this ???

Thanks Nickjtc, comments very much appreciated..

Anyone have an idea on how I could lower the seat itself on the frame ?
Would have to do something like move the mounts on the seat or something I would guess, right ?
Is this even possibile , as the seat now basically sits on the frame...???

Seems to me that you would have to sculpt the seat over, around and between the frame rails, which would reduce the amount of seat padding for your rear....

The underside of the seat is originally curved at the rear section of the seat.
Maybe, you could try to straighten the undersite in front of the storage room under the hump?
Just an idea.

Yeah, you should definitely get rid of that seat, and make a new, lower one.

In fact, just to make it easier on you, I'll give you 50 bucks for that piece-of-crap, too-tall, hard-to-pronounce seat you've got there.  You know, just to ensure it gets a decent burial...

In terms of lowering the seat - I wouldn't go near that seat with a hammer or saw.  I'd start from scratch with a new pan etc.

My current seat is a compromise first step.  I will likely go to a proper solo seat with just a flat pan behind the tank and then a proper metal hump on the backend.  Right on the frame rails.

I just saw this now and did not read all of it. But I can tell you that we did the same mod for Home Wreckers frame. However YOU HAVE TO TIE THE TWO FRAME RAILS TOGETHER AGAIN. That brace ahead of the shocks is not enough to give you a stable frame. Not tied together the shocks will attempt to move independent of each other and create an occilation. I know this as a fact as our proto type frame did this after we did the mod. Boxed in the end of the frame and the occilation was gone.

I would never ack/cut/modfy that seat I have.
It is fine the way it is - and will stay the way it is.

As far as bracing goes, I will look into it over the winter.
At the momment - i just cant see where I could tie the two rails together and
still have it look clean. Maybe if I got some 1/4 steel rod or something i could make a tight to the bottom of the seat fitting brace of some sort ?
Who knows....

proteal, if you wanna brace it, you dont have to run a tube across from shock to shock. you can use triagulated bracing to the cross tube in front of the shock mounts.

take some tubing and cut it to angle from the shock mounting points inward towards the cross brace behid your battery. they will meet in the middle of that cross brace, or almost meet. you would then have a triangle shaped bracing for each side, which will be plenty sturdy. it should still give ample tire clearance and not be visable. you will probably have to cut reliefs in your inner fender, however, cause the new bracing will run right through the sides of it.

i just did this on a kaw bobber im working on.

i could also see it being possible to re-weld the original brace back onto the tubes like it was before, only moved forward from its original position. not sure aout seat clearance though.
