So you have 43 HP at the wheel if I read correct? I have something close to that with my 605 build.

I am very happy with the CR29's for the race track.  That said, my guess is the CR26 would be a better choice for most applications.  At RPMs below 5,000 if I snap the throttle open the motor goes instantly lean.  The good news is even on the race track you rarely snap the throttle open unless you are running it to redline on a straight.  Most of the time you are rolling the throttle on as you drive out of corners.  My motor is a hot street motor, not a full on racer.  I am making 48 to 49 HP at the rear wheel depending on the day and which dyno is used.

My motor has JE Pistons at 10.5:1 compression ratio, Webcam 358b, Serdi valve job, oversize valves, KPMI springs, Ti retainers, with stage 1 porting by M3 Racing.

That sounds about right. Very typical for the CR's especially the 29's on the 550. Good to here there working for your application!
I designed & sell Streetable CR kits for the 550 that is a little more forgiving to an open throttle snap and also allows for good K&N Pod clearance from the frame.

Wanted to share the results from this past weekend's Ohio Mile.  Even with a 5-6 mph head wide I ran a 130.662 on my CB550.  Big thanks to Mike Rieck for his cylinder head work.  Other changes included a 11.5:1 JE Pistons and DP335 Web Cam from Dyno Man.  Well pleased with the results.

Godffery,
That's an interesting looking kit.  What is that line coming out of the clutch housing in that picture?  Did you just run the clutch cable in a different direction on that bike instead of the standard routing?

It is a hydraulic clutch. You can verify that by looking at the previous pickup and see the reservoir/master on the left bar  ;)

Thanks for the bump.  Still waiting on the fairing from my fiberglass guy.  Since he has to build a mold he has been procrastinating.  Latest promise is November, not holding my breathe.  His glass is the best I have ever seen, so hoping it is worth the wait.  The RC181 fairings that are out there are 16 inches wide and the narrowest I can get my CB550 is 19 inches.

Racing has been up and down this year.  A couple of thirds at Road America to start the year and a fourth & fifth at Barber to close it out.  High sided big time at Mid-Ohio in turn one and broke 2 ribs.  I came to a stop just in time to see the bike make 2 complete rolls!  Damage on all sides, including the tach/fairing mount, exhausts, clip-ons, gas tank, etc.  Missed Mosport as a result, but finished the repairs the week before Barber.   Will post an update on my racing at CB550 Track Bike Goes Racing under High Performance and Racing soon.

It has been a long wait, but I picked up my RC181 replica fairing yesterday.  Here is a photo of it mounted on my CB550.

I had hoped to use it a Barber next week, but none of my windscreens fit.  Will need to get the fairing to Gustafsson to see if he has one that will fit.  If not will see if he can do a custom windscreen.

No kidding.

Where did you source the fairing?  It's a slightly modernized version of the RC181 (different ducts), but it looks amazing.

The fairing was supplied by National Fiberglass out of Akron, Ohio.  He has been making fiberglass parts since the 70's.  Has a lot of molds for older stuff (including CR750 seats).  The owner is Eric Smakula, but he goes by "Dude".  Seriously, just call him "Dude".  Be aware he moves at his own pace, but has always come through for me ultimately.  He can supply the fairing in street weight or light race weight.  On my bike the side mounts are 19 1/2 inches.  I had tried a fairing from Voxhonda, but it was made for a 16 inch wide motor and could not be made to work.

His contact info is:
303-687-1076
ultimat8dude@yahoo.com

He is making an upper section which will be sent to Gustafsson to match up a windscreen.  If that is a no go the mold may need modified to fit what is available.  So, you may want to hold off and see what happens.

I will be fabricating air scoops for the side ducts out of thin aluminum plate, painting it silver, and adding the decals I sourced from Lord Moon Pie.  Will post pictures of the mounts after the races at Barber next weekend.

Looks good Martin. That Gustafsson family are good folk too, they'll fix you up. I maybe got to know them too well!  ;) ::) I was buying a screen a year for a while!

That original fairing was from Rob aka Voxonda? Is it a Davies?

Looking forward to seeing you again you in a few days.

The prior fairing was from Rob at Voxonda.   It was made by Moto Forza and is marked "Hailwood  500 Replica, Mike Hailwood 1965".  Also tried a fairing made from a mold of Terry Naughtin's (Team Hansen).  Both were made for an engine 16 inches wide or less and would not work with my 19" wide engine.  Those original RC181's were extremely narrow.

All roads lead to Barber Motorsports next week!
