Early Goldwing forks on a 550?
« on: October 02, 2014, 10:50:53 AM »
I have been told that the forks from the early years of the Goldwing will fit in the triple clamps of the CB750. Someone might do this for styling, for the twin disk set up, just to be different, etc, etc. Anyways, will the fork tubes of let's say a '75 or '76 Goldwing fit in the triple clamps of a  '74 CB550?

No. The GL1000 forks are 37mm dia. The 550 is 35mm dia.

And I do have both top and bottom triple tree available should you have a need for them to slide your goldwing forks in.

I believe that the diameter of the GL1000 steerer tube is the same as the 550, but it's longer. To use the GL front end you need to use the GL triples, but have the steerer tube pressed out and the tube from your 550 pressed in to replace it.

Thanks for the replies. There is a 1975 Goldwing in very poor condition for $250 on craigslist in my state, MN. It has a complete and straight front end. Just thinking about a winter modification for my nonstock 550 cafe. The brakes don't look particularly powerful by modern standards, but that's not the point is it?
