I recall a short while back someone made a set of 4-4 glasspacks that supposedly made the sound "not quite so loud" (but loud enough) and deep. I wish I could hear it so I could comment, but I would expect it to sound pretty darn good, considering I've heard dual exhaust with glasspacks on a big V8 and it sounds pretty good.

I´ve been thinking of recording the sound from the 4-4 pipes.
Could prove difficult to get any decent sound quality, though...
Advice?

Cheers

do it outside - about 10-15 feet away from a wall, preferably wood, preferably with an inside corner, aim the bike at the wall/into the corner - have the microphone high (above the bike) and at a mid-point between the bike and the wall

adjust the distance of the bike from the wall to control volume/feedback/distortion

if there is no wooden wall with an inside corner, try a concrete wall with the bike aimed directly at it - in this scenario a corner might provide too much volume but experiment...

Yes, DME's bike kicks lots of ass. That's very cool. The final BOTM vote for the year is gonna be interesting, with lots of superb machines in the running.

                                                       MY OWN OPINION

Hey, I'm all for a good sounding exhaust system. Then again, I've heard some bike that the sound they make is just plain obnoxious. Some don't really sound all that good, just loud. I've seen some 4 into1s that sounded tough, some 4 into 2s that got the job done and some 4 into 4 that did quite well. Myself, I've always liked what a reversecone megaphone did for an exhaust in looks and sound. Like some of the guys have said, I don't want to be banned from the neighborhood so, I'll take it easy and get it out on the road before I'll cut it loose. We used to have a neighbor whose son had an Oldsmobile Aurora with one of those funky mufflers on it (my weed eater sounded better!) and he'd come in around midnight! I thought about stuffing a potato in it! I feel like there's good sounds and then there's  racket (and, to me, racket is not only annoying, it's not helping the performance)  Like I said, My Own Opinion. Later on, Bill

If any of you other F guys are curious, simply unbolt that heavy damn muffler and run straight header. Mine reminded me of a stock car with a heavy cam. Rumpaaaaa !! Loud ass rumpaaaaa !!. Especially at about 7K +. The Yoshi cam really sounds sweet idling about 750rpm hitting a lick. My wife and my neighbors just loved it but not nearly as much as the nice folks in the next neighborhood once I cranked it away from my place. It looked really nice with that open collector. Now that I finally have my pretty new Kerker my neighbor insulted me by saying it sounds like a modern sport bike.

Nah, the Kerker is quiet. My wife sounded worse than the open header. New header = new baffle. Modern sport bikes are quiet until you rap em up and then they start screaming. You gotta try stuff. The down side to the Kerker is I can now hear that noisy clutch and cam chain. But, if you listen closely, you can still hear the Yosh cam! I haven't tried the Kerker without the baffle. Whadda ya think?!

PHEW, Since my old mufflers are rotted to #$%* and sometime in the near future i'll be buying new 4-1 pipes, I cut off my mufflers.  Damn, it really is just obnoxious around 6-7k.  I opened it up on an open stretch here and a couple walking on the sidewalk had to cover their ears.  :D  Really looking forward to the new crisp clean look off 4-1.

I didn't think I wanted a loud exhaust on my F until the other day when I met a guy with a 750K7 and MAC exhaust. It sounded oh-so-sweet! I'm considering taking the baffles out of my no-name, imitation Kerker but I think I'll destroy them in the process. Wouldn't be a big deal except that I'm not sure I want to get into re-jetting and all of that right now.

I got lucky with "Ol-Smokey" and didnt have to re-jet when I went from the 4 into 2 to the new
de-baffeled MAC 4 into 1...
