The black oxide...keep lightly oiled, as you know, they rust easy otherwise and are a pita to clean up.  Wonder if silicone would protect them from rusting but keep the dirt buildup to a minimum?

Who did your head work? Mike R?
Was the head ported at all? I presume with the nice upgrades to top shelf merchandise you had some work done on the head to eek out more performance...

David

Be very careful using silicone on the black oxide, most silicone is acidic and will promote rust, there are non acidic versions that would work, ever see all the dodgy  leaky windscreens "fixed up" with silicone.? most just about fell out due to rust not long after... ;)

RR, thanks!  I didn't know that...

David

Tweakin - you can find the 12 PT in metric SS at Allensfastners.com. I've got them lined up for my new build also.

*Thought I was going to be "special" and use them, but your progress beat me to it.

If the local Home Depot employees don't know what your looking for try the local glazers(window installers) suppliers and ask for the low acid silicone.

Beautiful and meticulous work! By the way, what is an Elan kit for the 750 oil pump?

Small details are what i like about rebuilding these old bikes.  Picked up a Nissin master to run the dual discs.  Removed the big reservoir and added this little one in its place.  I run this set up on my 915 and it really helps to clean up the bars.

Check out a Rizoma MC cap. That will bring the details up to par with your build... Maybe their recessed fuel cap too.

I do like the Rizoma parts, have quite a bit on my modern bike, but don't feel it fits the look I am going for with this build.

Finally getting to the point where the fun begins.  Today I got the jugs and head on, I am so happy we can now get MLS gaskets for these bikes.  Torqued the head nuts, will let it sit overnight and re-torque before I instal the cam and cam towers.  Really looking forward to degreeing the cam, its satisfying then you know its just right.

Also got back my first batch of powdercoat, after 8 weeks... :o  My guy is half the price of most local powdercoaters but you need to ride his a$$ at times to get your parts done.  Needless to say, I grabbed all the parts that are going to be silver and dropped them off with my other powdercoater.

Love a frame in fresh powder.

8 weeks is too long to make anyone wait..doesn't matter how well it's done or for how little it cost.  You're a patient man, tweakin..I'd be pi$$ed.  The frame does look great, though, as does the motor work.

Sweet looking engine tweakin, haven't read through all the pages but did you go oversize on the pistons? I'm pondering going oversize myself, but not sure where to get a good set, (IFF I find a local mahine shop that will do the work that is...). Mind sharing where you got yours and what size?
