Jordan,
Is your frame titled?

No sir. Don't tell the fuzz but I was just going to keep a copy of my 750's insurance and registration on me in case I got pulled over. Got any better ideas?

I'll start the process of getting it titled when I finish this semester at school, I just don't have time right now

No pressing need to title it until you have it roadworthy.  If you haven't done it already, have AAA or the CHP check the VIN and Engine #'s to make sure they don't come back stolen.  It would be a huge waste if they had to confiscate it with all the work into it.

I rode my Goldwing for 2 years with a plate registered to my 550 that I sold to a buyer in South Carolina. I had the title, just never got around to transferring it and the plate.

I figured if I got pulled over and the cop knew enough to recognize that the plate didn't match the bike I would just say I only just bought the bike a couple days earlier and hadn't transferred title yet.

Fortunately I never needed to try out my story. I will probably do the same thing for a while on my 550 project when it is ready, but the risk is even lower. I have gotten many tickets in my life (although most were in my 20's) and I have never ever had a cop check a VIN.

Good to know! I doubt I'll be doing anything ticket-worthy on the bike so I'm not too worried.

Tracking down some used rear spokes so I can actually make it a roller, sent the crank, pistons, and cylinders to APE to get worked on, and I'm just waiting for a day off to drive down to bob smalls to drop my head off. Slowest build ever. Turn around rate on the motor will be a month from APE, and the head will probably take 2 weeks minimum. I've got parts heading in from all over (thank you all so much) so I'll be assembling things as I go.

I'm debating de tabbing the frame (side covers and battery box). Any opinions?

I was road testing a vintage velo trying to get it dailed in in my home town and it would stall on me and I kept bump starting it down hills trying to get it to run long enough to get me home .ended up having to park it and get a buddy to take it home for me in his truck.back at home I was down beside the bike adjusting the carb and I glanced to the right and saw big boots and yellow stripes .the cop had taken the plate no and tracked me home the plate was from another bike and no inspection no ins.I was lucky that he was a vintage bike freak and just wanted to see the bike and talk to me .I don't do that anymore!haha bill

Just my $0.02:
Since you are hot-rodding the motor, I would detab it and lighten where possible.

As for the registration, I've only titled one bike out of the system.  It requires some leg-work, including a DMV sign-off.  I had it done by a DMV expediter service out of Anaheim (can't recall the contact information, but if I can, I will forward it to you).  You may ask Carpy, too, since he's done this a bunch of times, and knows the process for California.

Got my carbs in from Jay Danielz on here, just wanted to say my blind grandmother can pack a box better than this. I'll be soaking them this weekend and we'll go from there.

Yes I am.

I put in a bid for it, but refusing to budge beyond a certain amount because it wasn't taken care of very well and the wiring is a hack job, and the fabbed seat pan is something else. Still waiting to hear back. Getting a 550 one way or another.

That's cool, I have a lot of deaf friends and know enough ASL to get by :)

The wiring harnesses will never get better, give the seller a week and resubmit your offer. If the engine, frame, and tank are original I'd buy it!
