Anyone use Harbor Freight 12v utility pump?
« on: November 24, 2013, 09:00:23 pm »
Has any of you used this 12v utility pump from HF? More specifically, how do power it if you don't have a 12v car battery? Will a standard laptop 50w charger or a 12v DC 4.16A power supply make this thing run?

A friend of mine has one to test his remote controled boats. He uses a 12v converter and hasn't had any problems.

I have one on my boat for pumping out my 20 gallon fresh water tank every fall. Works like a charm. I don't think a laptop battery would budge the motor. I tried using a motorcycle battery to not have to hoist a full size car battery into the boat. Did not work.

How are you powering it? Battery or the boat's power outlet? I've had no luck getting it to run off a charger because of the 4A requirement.....

You would need at bare minimum a 5 amp power supply but I would want to go a few amps higher to not put too much strain on the supply, 7-8 amps would be better and 10amp would be very good.

Laptop charger didn't work, it goes brm.....brm.....brm.....brm....brm, as it if was on a drip charger. Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to keep a battery at hand to  power it.
