'71 500 Four Rear Fender Dent???
« on: November 20, 2013, 07:56:15 AM »
I'm changing my '72 500 Four rear fender & taillight to the '71 style. I owned a '71, bought brand new, back in 1972. The 'gooseneck' rear taillight was only used on the '71 500 Four. I kind of liked it, compared to the later huge rectangular taillight and monstrous bracket.   ::) It was easy to hang your helmet on.   :D

My question is on the fender just above the rubber cone...Is this 'dent' supposed to be there, for some reason??? It's mostly hidden with the license plate on. I don't have the rubber cone yet, so if it's supposed to be 'flat', I can probably push it out...   :P

No, that dent is not normal but it should be covered by your license plate so it won't be too noticeable. Here's a shot of my '71 fender for comparison:

Thanks for that! The dent is so symmetrical & centered that I wasn't sure...   ;)

BTW: Why does your fender have two holes on the trailing edge?   :o

Yeah, those extra holes were from the top notch work of my PO. I'm sure they did something important at the time. Luckily, the PO also cracked the side of that fender so I have since replaced it.
