Question About Cylinder Spigot O Ring
« on: November 23, 2013, 09:36:42 AM »

Well, I realized when put my engine together over a year ago that I forgot to put the cylinder spigot o rings on. Im contemplating pulling it apart again. Could someone tell me how detrimental these o rings are to the function of the bike? I know its a stuoid question but id like to get the pros advice on this one.

Thanks

They were put there to stop oil "wicking" up the liner/ alloy cylinder joit as a lot of the early castings were porous, if its been a year and it don't leak don't sweat it till you have to pull it for some other reason

Bryanj I think you misread. He has a smaller Honda, don't they use rubber for the intake manifolds?

If you have a crummy idle and idle hang then I would say you need the orings. If you haven't had any issues after a year leave it be until you have to do something else around there. if I am interpreting it correctly

Cylinder spigot to me has nothing to do with intakes its the bit of liner that sits in the crankcase

Suppose I'm wrong then, but no worries, like they said the engine will be fine

Thanks for all tge advice guys. My bike has been sitting while being worked on for a year. I started running it 4 months ago. I had some oil leaks. Turned out that my cam cover gasket was pinched and it broke. I also had a puck come lose. Oil began to leak from the number 2 exhaust. I think it was due to the puck. Later on I realized that some time ago, I forgot the spigot o rings. By the way my bike is a 500.
