Topic: Bike scrap yard sell. Hot head! I should have bought it?

I visited a scrap yard today when they had got CB750 parts. Ported heads and cylinders

I went there to buy a head.  Too extreme for me. One had welded inlet ports, inside 36mm outer >40mm) Suzuki 1100 carb boots to be used.  Did not buy cylinder with fresh 67.5 mm pistons and rings or another one with 836.

Found another head with moderate porting for $175 plus CB900 con rods. I guess I'll regret not buying the extreme one when this kind of stuff is seldom seen for sale. And the fresh cylinder with 67,5 mm pistons with rings. No vertical ring lash or other damages. I saw carb project of about $1000-1500 plus a crank case job for the bigger cylinders.

I'd say that head is a good start......it needs a lot more work to live up to its potential.

Actually a lot of material can be removed from the roof PeWe....it woul pick up some good CFM.

I think my ports were bigger than that Mike and mine could be ridden on the street if one wanted to.

pee wee, i am no expert on CB750's but if it helps you to know, my 810 gpz that makes 90 rear wheel horsepower has ports that are only 29 mm, would open them up to 31 if i had a carb set to match, but not more, so I would say that 36mm is very much on the large side....  IMHO of course (regardless of the fact that you could remove material from the roof like mike says).
Sam, "could be ridden on the street if one wanted to" can be interpreted in many ways.... like from how low could you open the throttle?

I could not resist another cheap head. The port job might be a little bit too inspired...?
Seats for original valves 32/28. EX valve guides need to be replaced.

CB900 con rods 1.5mm longer that might be useful. Maybe with my old AF 836 pistons.
Only 32mm IN valves give room for 1,5mm higher lift of the piston. Only 0.5mm closer

Yeap, some 34's might work just right. I'd better stick with what i've got for now. You guys on this forum will make a person go broke on these old bikes stepping them up and we'd still not be fast enough to beat the newer bikes straight off the showroom floor. lol

I went back for the cylinder, 67,5mm (900cc). I got a K2 -1972 case in the deal, dirty but no visible damage. A new project is started: head with valves-cylinder-case-CB900 rods. Some parts left
-One question though. Who made the pistons?

$410 US  (2700 SEK) with valves and alu retainers. I think that old carb boots will follow if you ask for it.

This kind of insanity is passion! Very wonderful feeling upgrading/tuning. Interest we can discuss here, learning more and help others. Driving too is fun. I have not done it yet, I have to wait for spring.

I have spent some on my bike the last 2 years bringing it back to life and restore the changes during the 80's that were so fun then. Horrible today!
So far about double amount of $$$ I planned 2 years ago (double time as well). Upgrades and repair old rotten parts. Only super crank with rods missing... 

Buying a new tank with side covers in correct color from yamiya750.com was not possible 1 year ago, now planning WHEN to put in basket, not IF!

I have now got parts that need more parts.. head-cyl-rods, K2 crank case with B BBBB as my K6 running engine, very useful when swapping cranks !
When engine is completed it will need a frame or a complete bike....

I have done it again! Same as the expensive big repair/upgrade 1983/84. When I was finish, money spent was enough for a new Kawasaki 1000J. But my bike had no problem to keep up with these bikes.
Today I have a CB750 I can spend money on, again! Kawasaki 1000J 1983-84 model is not that popular.
