Since the design of the existing hanger is useless for either a K or F model, perhaps he will provide one with a hanger that will work.  I agree that a new hanger on the pipe before the can would seem to work, but then you ugly the can by cutting off the unusable hanger.

I actually asked Chris if he had a hanger "solution" since this is a 750 pipe but his response was "each bike is different" so its up to the buyer to decide.

Well, I understand that there are differences between the 750 K, late K and F models.  However, I don't think that the hanger welded to the can matches up with any natural mount points on any of these models.  It would appear to be better off without any hanger (as with the Yosh replica pipe) and leaving it to the user to weld one on.  Maybe he can give you a replacement end section without a hanger and leave you to weld one to the pipe in front of the can.

Asking Chris to swap is a good idea.  If not, perhaps grind off the weld carefully, polish up the can and new mount in line with passenger peg.  A through bolt would be so clean.

In the month since last posted I've been in Cape Town for a mate's wedding.  The day I returned Jazzy was run over in my own driveway, 10 feet from the house.  She fractured both hips, had surgery, and is recovering.  She may be paralyzed in one rear leg but time will tell.  So the projects have suffered a little bit.

I received the black Sun rims laced up and trued by Buchanans, with new BT-45Vs.  110/90-18 front and 130/80-18 rear.  The only thing holding up the install is the rear hub o-ring (68mm x 2.6mm).  When that last part arrives, I can take off the polished Excel wheels and install those on the 550 build.  I think I like the polished rims better.

Also, I wired up the twin LED tail light which doubles as turn signals.

We've also put some work into my buddy's 550 build.  You can see the polished aluminum engine parts and the black powder coated hubs, rims, and fork sliders.  All new steering head, wheel and swing arm bearings/bushings.  His seat, tank, fender and side covers are out for painting by the same guy that painted my parts.  Without being a spoiler, his colors are root beer and grey, with red accents.

Cheers!

On the exhaust hanger, I got in touch with Chris and he is sending me a new alloy sleeve for the can without a mount.  I can then remove the mount on my can, put on the new sleeve and weld on the mount so it lines up with the mount for the passenger peg.  Bolt together and done. I think this will be a good solution.

Jazzy is home.  Stitches are out.  Lots of therapy ahead - can't walk yet, just hobbles on 3 legs and is still in pain from the surgery.  She has a motorized wheelchair.

With Jazz keeping me company, I finished building the front & rear wheels.  Thanks to Godfrey for the lightened and drilled rotors.  Cheers.

Damn!  I forgot to put in the o-ring (parts fiche #21) under the speedo gear box retainer.  Is it crucial, or may I do without it?

...edit...turns out I had a NOS o-ring so unbolted the hub and on it went.  Eazy peazy.  I was worried I would have to wait for the UPS man to get these wheels on.

Need help......calling Tweakin, brandEn and other "F"ers.

After installing the rear wheel, there is a 1/2" gap between the rear caliper and the swingarm.  That's 1/2" of the rear axle showing in the gap.

Below is the parts fiche for a 1976 CB750F.  The collars/spacers no. 12, 13 & 15 are all in place.  It's the same hub I removed from the bike and kept all axle and hub parts in the same box.  The only things I did was polish the hub and sprocket carrier, install 3 new SKF bearings, powder coat and rebuild the caliper, reinstall the bearing retainers, and put on a new sproket.  The internals are all same parts which came off this bike.  There are no left over parts; and the parts fiche shows no other spacers/bearings.  I did not over insert the bearings - pressed in only to the edge of the axle collar - and the wheel spins very freely with the new bearings.

This is the left or sproket side of the hub.  Collar no. 13 is in place (althout difficult to see due to the angle of the photo) and allows the wheel to spin freely.

The nut on the axle in the photos is in the exact location when I started the disassembly.

Where did I go wrong???  Please help.  I cannot figure this out.

In any event, the front wheel went on perfectly.  Was only a tad tight going on in between the fork sliders due to the 110 tire, but once in place spins perfect and true.

Looks like the spacer on the sprocket side is missing? That Cush drive should not rest on the chain adjuster.

brandEn.  Thanks for checking this out.  I think I may have installed #15 from inside the bearing with the smaller diameter protuding through to the outside - barely.  I will have to walk down to the shop to see.  I have done it that way on a different build, correctly, but may have done that here incorrectly.  If so, that's what I get for rushing.  Will report back shortly.  Again - thank you.

Looking at the parts fisch it shows the #15 shouldered spacer "inside" of the sproket carrier bearing but it seems to make sense if used as brandEn suggests, from the outside-in so the shoulder is the spacer bewteen the sproket carrier and chain adjuster.  Is the parts schematic wrong?  It also seems you need #15 between the hub and cush drive to prevent the cush drive from seating too deeply.  Head scratching here.

Discovered the problem after removing the rear wheel.  The no.13 spacer (sproket side) I used wasn't the true 13 from when I disassembled the axle/hub.  It was same I.D. and slid over axle fine but about 1/2 the length of the true no. 13 - so it got sucked all  the way in the retainer/dust seal. Not sure where it came from.  I found the true no. 13 in my buddies 550 parts box.  Maybe he got one of his spacers mixed up with mine.  Now the whole assembly is 1/4" too wide to fit within swingarm.  Geez.

You know what I did something similar on my first go around and I discovered it was the spacer for the oil filter....
