Option 1 definitely in the future, but as you said, just finished and want to enjoy riding for a while until I commit to the 836/JMR Phase 2.

Option 3 is do-able now.  I just ordered a 2nd 550 dual disc package from Godffrey for my mate's black bike.  So I may as well have Jeff include a  dual kit for the 750 at the same time.  Will still need to upgrade the MC.

Thanks, Don!

If you go dual stock disc, yes, I would still recommend upgrading the MC.

If you really want to flaunt the classic, period looking MC, then this is bad-a$$:

Or use a MC from an F2-F3 or a early Goldwing. Dual discs on both my bikes and I am happy with the stopping power...(when they are running, heh)

Yeah, at $544 for the AP Racing MC, that's insanity -- you can already buy a Brembo 19RCS, almost two of them!!!

The GL MC should work well, as it's designed for larger dual piston brakes - and it IS period correct.  If modern doesn't bother you, you can also pick out a Nissin radial MC cheaply.

AP Racing parts are very high quality.  The Classic line is not so much high performance by modern standards but much improved over classic parts and the design is from period pieces made by AP back in the day.  Like these old calipers:

The performance braking parts that they make for modern bikes are excellent -- on par with modern Brembo gear.

Nice options.  Definitely worth consideration when I go with the 836/JMR next phase.  Once my 550 is finished, I may start sooner than I anticipated.

I bled the SS line after a bunch of riding.  No air bubbles at all.  I'm thinking some air must be trapped in the splitter.  My orange 550 with OEM lines stops better and feels firmer.  Tapped on splitter and pushed fluid up thru the bleeder too.  Same.

Hey, I'm fairly new to this forum.  I just bought a 76' cb750.  I really enjoyed reading thru your build! I will definitely use this as a reference for parts and info.  I hope Jazzy made a full recovery!!

Have had the new pipe on for a couple weeks.  Fitment in head exhaust ports is outstanding.  Tucks in tightly with room to remove stock oil filter and drain plug.  Sounds a little deeper than the gpmoto pipe especially at higher RPMs.  4-2-1.

Hey Don....I found a GL front for sale on the forum.  Will my stock CB750F front hub and axle work?  Or must I also get a GL hub and axle.  I would hate to have to rebuild and relace another hub.

Excellent find.  The stock hub is identical between the 750 and GL1000, but I believe that the GL axle is slightly wider.  You will also want to retain the GL1000 speedo drive.  FYI, the rim on the GL is the same size as the 750 but it is aluminum and not steel for less weight (if only all of the CBs used aluminum rims stock).

Now that the Danielle 550 is shaken down, being ridden regularly, and will be my main ride for summer, it's time to start Phase 2 of the Blaster project (and I have to keep up with Cal for bragging right's sake).

I already have my chit in for a Gordon frame kit.  I'm planning on cutting the frame to get the head and cylinder out.  Going with Wiseco 836 pistons, a Megacycle cam, and go with either a Stage III or IV for the head if Mr. Rieck has availability.  I still do not comprehend or appreciate the distinction between a III and IV.  I will keep the stock bottom end in tact and sitting in the frame.  I'll weld on the frame kit after the head/cylinder is removed.  Not quite sure if I'll get CR29s for this phase or run the stock carbs with some slider work.

My plan then is to run the 836 Blaster til a major failure, and then do a frame up build hosting a balanced, lights out 915cc engine (ala Tweakin).

I'll start posting pics as soon as I cut into the frame.  In the meantime, the next couple weeks I plan to ride the cr*ap out of the Blaster.

Cheers!

Kevin,

The Stage IV is the Stage III plus the CB750 Kibblewhite 5mm valve conversion kit (34mm intake/28mm exhaust valves, guides, seals, springs, Ti retainers, spring bases and lash caps).  It is the Full Monty, the Entire Enchilada, the Dog's Balls, etc.  "It is so choice.  If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."  (Ferris Bueller)  Since you are so equipped, do not deny yourself squeezing some additional and reliable performance out of your motor.

Doctor Dave is pulling over 80 bhp out of his F.  This is the spec I am going to run on my 836 Bionic Mongrel build.

BF - try running the twin carb Mikuni setup Devin at CognitoMoto is using. When I finish rebuilding the 550 motor and install it, I am giving serious consideration to swapping to them from the stock units. Of course, the 915 will want a quad package, but I'd be very interested in the suitability of the twins for a healthy 836

I never mind spending your money experimenting for our sakes! By the way, Happy Good Friday and Easter to you and yours  :D

Kevin,

FYI -- I am pretty pleased with the performance of my 750 (Nine Lives) - 836 Wiseco kit, Stage 2 head, M3 Racing heavy duty cam chain tensioner, hot street cam, CR29s.

I think that with your spec motor AND the ported head, the CR29s would be a good choice.  I've had no starting or bogging issues, and much improved power/torque.

That's a good combination. ;) ;D

I'm more excited about my Bionic Mongrel motor:  Back-cut trans, HD primary and cam chains, HD tensioners, Mike Reick Stage IV port/valve job, balanced crank/rotor, 836 Wiseco kit, CX7 cam, and likely RS34s.  This is pretty much identical to the Doctor Dave Hiller motor.  I cannot wait to experience the Mike Reick difference!  That head is a work of industrial art.

Don, a Bionic type build is very tempting, but I'm going for a quick turn around by not splitting the cases this time and leaving the block in the frame.  Thinking a Stage III with CR29s and a 125(?)-60 cam.  I can feed in a new timing chain too.

Save the IV for the 915 with Carrilos and b/l crank.
