I broke my nipple. Help
« on: December 01, 2013, 11:21:54 PM »

Culprit - 75 cb750F

I tried my best to loosen the bleeder nipple on the rear disc brake. Well it snapped off. I broke my nipple.
Should I try and fix it? If so how?

Also upon inspection my Master Cylinder is thrashed beyond belief. I declare it unfit to rebuild. To much metal damage. Where o where can I find a replacement that isn't an arm and a leg?

The bike is almost bake on the road.

You'll need to remove the caliper, put it in a vice and drill out the remaining part of the nipple, then re-tap. From memory, a 5.5mm drill should do it followed by a 6mm tap. Don't be tempted to use easy-outs, if one of those snaps off in there it will be a bear to remove.

Yes they do. Smart move, easy and you won't damage anything. Can't say about the price but it IS reasonable AND you'll get a Speed Bleeder too. Ask for stainless and get one for your front too as a present to yourself and a thank you to Speed Bleeder.

Good luck on the rear master. That may take some time to source a good used one. New has not been available for MANY moons. Also the kit is not available from Honda I'm thinking. You can use a 75-79 Goldwing kit though. Slightly longer piston bolt.

bjbuchanan  Yes 100% and for some well worth it if time is not an issue. But back to what I brought up is there a seat at the bottom that the bleeder has to match up with ? If you drill into it will it mess it up? Just asking not sure but the OP should know before drilling.

I do like to try and do things my self... But the logic of having a pro handle it sounds like a safe bet.

Thanx fellas. Two Nipples are better than one. The nip broke flush. So I'm not completely sure what you mean by seat. Ill be having it fixed professionally.

I also discovered a 71 Fiat has a brake hose with a Banjo and a female M10x1.25 fitting. Which you can pick up at the local auto store. That 1.25 is hard to find for cars.

Problem is its only a foot long. Just a foot note.

And again thank you for the help. And yeah I figure a tittle has to be funny.

Bent it hell, I broke it... There's a joke in there somewhere  ;)

Check in with Bill Benton on spares. I think I saw some in v2.0 Bat Cave recently.

What I am talking about is something like your carb jets needle & seat. I think if you look at the end of a new one it will have a taper that has to match up. So I was trying to tell you if you take a drill to it you don't want to mess up the seat once you get the broken part out. But sending it off is best I'm glad Jerry brought it up I had forgotten all about them doing that service. I do have the speed bleeder and like them.

I've drilled these successfully before. The trick is to go careful - if you have a spare bleed nipple it helps to estimate the depth to drill. You don't need to drill down to the seat, use the correct size drill and it works out the same size or slightly larger than the widest part of the taper on the nipple (just below the threaded section). The drill will cut the taper off before it bottoms on the seat. Once you get to that you can tip the caliper upside down and shake the remaining taper out of that hole you just drilled, leaving the seat intact.

I screwed my rear caliper up also so bad I'll need to have the hole soldered and re tapped or I found some brass inserts that have a bleeder in them. Unfortunately I thought I could do it myself and the hole is just slightly to big so I'm looking at having it soldered in. Wish I had gone professional to start with :(
