Not Firing Up!
« on: November 24, 2013, 03:27:19 AM »
Help! Did a complete restoration of a '73 CB500K2. all top end replaced and all together, got compression, new coil, points, condensers, good spark etc.
Carb parts are all replaced and ultrasonic cleaned. Plugs not getting wet exactly, but reasonably sure fuel there.

Cant get it to fire up, tries to catch, but no go. Checked TDC on number 4 against timing mark, so not that.

Any clues please?

Put choke full on, spin it over with full throttle then check the plugs, if they are not wet it's a fuel issue.  I sometimes put a little fuel in one or two of the cylinders with a syringe to get it firing after a rebuild.
It is at TDC on the compression stroke?

spray some starting fluid or carb cleaner down the throats with a fresh dry set of plugs with the throttle open . Then start it , if it roars to life then you can deduce it was a fuel delivery  issue. Even if you timing is way out if you have spark you should at least get some gnarly backfiring at least.
