it never ceases to amaze me

How much a tune up will do for performance   ;D It's like a whole new bike.

I hear ya on that. When I first got my 73 cb500 a few moths ago it was lucky to be putting out half the power it should have been. All I did was set the points gap correctly and set timing (PO had both screwed all up) then replaced the fuel lines running from the petcock to carbs, one of them had a 90 deg kink and was no doubt starving the 3 and 4 carb. Once all that was taken care of the 500 literally came to life.
