One of a kind?
« on: November 26, 2013, 04:00:15 pm »
I see these ads all the time for 500, 550, 750........Unique, not another one like it, one of a kind..... What, these guys live under a rock? They're all over like puppy crap. Like belly buttons......The only difference between this machine and anyone else's machine here , is that folks here strive to do decent work. I don't remember seeing anything this sad looking in project shop for a very long time . The tank looks like it was beat into shape with a 2 x4 .
This doesn't look anything like a $2500 bike to me, could it be true ? But I only pick up what I consider to be a reasonable price for any machine and it has never been anywheres near $2500 for a  40 year old machine,(At least this one had some engine work done)  I understand that some will pay more but, this seems way over priced to me ... I could be wrong, don't know  Would anyone here spend that kind of dollars on this bike? Is this normal? How much would you guys pay for this machine? I'm asking for a reality check for myself here, What would a fair price be?

Bike $500 + Ego $2000

Like your computation Jerry ;)  If it were stock it would be worth that price, otherwise follow Jerry's math...Larry

I pretty much agree that $2,500 seems a bit high.

But on the other hand, it is advertised as a running, sorted, titled bike and a lot of the cafe conversion heavy lifting (frame hoop, rear sets, relocated electrics) has been done, and that should have value. I think if it really does run right, and I mean completely right, $1,800-$2k is probably not that bad a price for a ready to ride 90% there cafe conversion.

The guy obviously bought it as a project to flip. He probably has $1500-$2000 in it and is trying to make a profit. Doesn't mean his hard work is worth it to anyone else. It's stuff like this that keep me from opening a shop that builds bikes like these. If it takes a month to build and you only make $1000 profit that's only $250 a week. Doesn't sound cost effective to me. Tank does look like crap and there isn't even a paint job on it. Pods are a fail as well as header wrap on a bike which has no benefit on a bike other than cosmetics if that's what floats your boat.
