Comstars from f2 on f1
« on: November 29, 2013, 02:31:54 AM »
Hi, Im trying to prepare a front end swap on my f1.

I Got a cheap busa fork with breakes and every thing. My goal is to get dual front brakes aswell and considering to get a pair I'm comstars from a f2 as I found them at a good price aswell..

My question this time - will it be a direct fit on the rear or do I have to make modifications? :)

the comstars are a direct fit on the rear.  not sure about front as when i fit mine i fit the entire f2 front end, which was eventually swapped out to the gl1000 after an incident with a dog in very early morning rain.

I don't think so.
I remember I had to swap out my swingarm also.

F2 has Different wheel spacers and a 10mm offset on the sprocket carrier, different swingarm as well... You'll also have fun fitting front comstars to the Gixxer forks, you'll need big spacers with 2 lots of holes to get the discs lined up with the calipers and hub, speedo drive won't work with the gixxer axel  and you'll need to find bearings to work as well....

funny.  i bought my 78 f3 comstars  and installed directly on my stock 76 F1  with no issues whatsoever and used the stock axle and spacers.  still have them set aside at moment in favor of the kz750 wheels.

F2-3 have a wider chain line due to a 10mm wider out put shaft and wider sprocket carrier to compensate, the swingarm is slightly wider on the left and the F2-3 have a wider top rear shock mount, you may want to measure your chain line, its possibly out of alignment ...

not doubting u retro.  just saying that mine swapped straight forward on a number matching 76 f bike.  chain was never out of alignment.  now i have hte kz750 wheels and a DOHC tubular swingarm 2 inches longer than the stock f arm.  lining the kz wheels up was a bit of a challenge what with finding bearings, reaming the brake carrier to accept the axle, finding spacers, etc.  she also now has the 78 f3 motor in her which as u said does have the 10mm wider output shaft.  coupled with the gl1000 front end, to me she rides like a dream and i can throw her around pretty decent.
