650 pod air filters
« on: May 20, 2005, 12:50:54 PM »
Hi all,
I just rec'd my Emgo individual universal air filters for my '82 CB650. I measured the intake side of the carbs and it came out to about 54mm, so I ordered the 54mm filters. So far, so good. Anyway, due to the location of the carbs to the frame, the 1 and 4 filters won't go on the carbs. What have others done? (nudge, nudge Terry in Oz) :-\ I suppose I could just cut the offending frame parts out of my way, but I figure some engineer at Honda spent a lifetime designing it, and who am I to undo his work? And please don't say to put the original airbox back on, as you'll see from the pic, it's not asthetically feasible.
Any and all opinions greatly appreciated.

hi, by how much won't they go on?are we talking loads? :-\ it sounds like you may have to make some kind of turnout from your carbs to your pods to clear your frame  :-\  mick.

Well, there's 2.75 inches between the carbs and the frame, and the filters need 3.25" long once installed. Blah. It doesn't look as tho I have a whole lot of room to make a flange, either. Back to the chalk-board, I guess.

Are those the foam ones? I suspect I could "squish" the foam ones and force them to fit. I have the mesh kind. The box says fits CB550SC, CB900, CB1000, CB1100F, and CBX1050. So if anyone has one of these and wants to buy my filters for what I paid for them, let me know...

UNI's:

Or, you need more squat pod filters.  I have some from my CB500 that are no more than 2.5 inches tall when sitting like the one in your picture.  I don't know if you can get the more squat style in a 54mm intake size (man, that's big).
