I bought my bike off craigslist a month or so ago. And since then it's been sitting in my garage.

I got a helmet. Signed up for the MSC, which I completed this past weekend. Today I got my endorsement from the DVM.

So after work I took my bike (sounds cool, huh?) on my very first ever motorcycle ride!!! It really was fun. :D

I went down to the local coffee shop, got a cup and drove around a bit. Probably 10 miles in all.

The first of many exhilarating rides.....  :)

Congrats! I just did the same thing with my 78 750F about 2 months ago and it has been one of the most amazingly fun and crazy things I've ever done in my life. I've been trying to find every excuse possible to take the bike out. I went to get prescriptions the other day and ended up "getting lost on the way back" for about an hour and a half.

I know I'll be taking the advanced course sometime in the spring or summer.

Just took the wife out to cycle gear and had her try on some helmets for whenever I get up the confidence to start 2 up riding. But I'd honestly rather her get her own bike :P

Have  a blast, be safe, and take the progress slow! I still plan on getting to an empty parking lot (whenever it get's above 20 degrees here) to work on getting more comfortable with the bike.

HA! Congratulations!

After way too many years without a bike, when I started riding on this side of the ocean, it took me several month to get the idiotic happy grin off my face everytime I got on it.

Wait, I still grin like an idiot most of my rides  :)

Thats great cougar, did you get goosebumps?
I still do on the first ride every spring.

Keep your wits about you and look for safer roads, stay away from the grocery stores, Walmarts and such. Parkways and country roads are better.

Good post!!. Nice to hear the perspective of a new rider. I've ridden many years now but I still remember my first bike and the feeling of the whole experience. Enjoy!!.

Congrats! Hope you have many years of fun. I am a (relatively) new rider and enjoy every minute on my toy. The fact that you have to really engage the brain before setting off and maintain concentration to avoid the behaviour of others has probably made me a better car driver as well.

As couple of the members have said before "ride like you're invisible" and " to ride is the excuse, the destination the reason."

Cheers,

Welcome to your own personal amusement-park ride. No waiting in line to enjoy yourself :)

So tell us why you have a K5 versus some other type of bike?

Thanks everyone for your encouragement!

I've had my endorsement since Tuesday and I've ridden (rode?) everyday. That's three rides so far. Hurrah!

I thought this morning would be a good day for my first longish ride (maybe 30 miles?) while everyone was home eating turkey and the roads relatively empty. Very cold but very, very exciting cruising on some of the back roads here.  And I only stalled the bike once! :)

On the way home I stopped at the local mall and practiced in the empty parking lot.

A great day.

Soon I will start restoring the CB to something approaching stock (as my wallet allows). And because I didn't want to be without a bike to ride during that process, yesterday I bought a KLR650. I know it's not  a SOHC4, but I got a good deal and thought it would be a good all round bike to gain riding experience on. And well, I like it too.

Thanks again for all the positive support. And Happy Thanksgiving (to the yanks).

#Old Scrambler

Sorry, I overlooked your question.

I've wanted a CB750 since high school, but never took the plunge. I always loved the looks, the sound, just the whole aura of the bike. It is to me, simply, a classic.

I've noticed the last few years that prices seem to be going up and available bikes seem to be getting harder to find (at least in my newbie estimation) so I thought that I had better take action, or forget about it...

Regards, Joseph.

One bit of advice I was given years ago. There will comes a number of hours of riding, or doing anything when you feel very confident.  That is when you can get hurt. Being timid can get you hurt also. The skill and the confidence will come together after a while.

Also don't be too down if (see: when) you first drop the bike. I dropped my 450 twice, once in a storage facility, I was trying to turn too tight and just fell. the other I was trying to kick start it and my foot slipped, kicked the sidecover off, broke the emblem, and fell over. When you first start it takes a while to get the "finesse" of the low speed maneuvers.
