I would get another set of carbs....  I probably have a carb body you could put the rest of your stuff in if you get stuck.

well i got it out!!! wasnt that hard, i just went very very slow with a 1/16 bit and drilled down just far enough to get my smallest extractor to bite in and it came right out! a few metal shavings but ill clean those out, now to buy another 40 jet, and pay retarded shipping for a small piece!! anyone thing i could use one of my old ones? or should i buy just one new one? or a whole set of 4?, now it sucks i had to take my seat and tank and carbs off for really nothing! at least she was saved.

thanks mitchie i really appreciate all your input and help on this situation, i already ordered a set of 4, but now im looking at ini should just replace my carb boots while im at it, i plan on keeping this bike forever and i know they will someday need it, and the carbs are off, anyone know a place that wont cost 80$ for a set?

Was that the cause of the original problem or an added complication?

If that's your problem... Run it and spray wd40 at the boot.... The RPM will change and you will likely get some white smoke.  I know My 40 year old rubbers are still fine (And I'm talking about the bike here.. lol.)

nope that was my own stupid fault and an added complication, i sure am kicking my self for that one, guess my elbow needs a recalibration.

i have read about the WD 40 method and was going to do it but my WD40 is a bit low on pressure, and i have no carb cleaner or starting fluid, would brake cleaner work?

my rubbers are in decent shape i see no cracks though them, i also did the wintergreen oil boil and it seemed to help, so maybe ill hold off on the boots or just say screw it caus ill need them someday. we will see.

thanks for the help thus far i will be back on here when i get the carbs all back together and pu on the bike again

well ive got an update, i finally found a very similar thread and PM'ed the originator and got a message back, also i bought new intake boots, figured i have enough invested in the bike whats another 80$ lol ahh ill keep it forever anyways. so back to my #1 running rich, it looks like the needle jet may be worn and bypassing to much fuel at all throttle positions as seen in this, http://www.salocal.com/sohc/tech/carb/dspg_mgs/rmvndljt.htm so i contacted the guy who rebuilt my carbs and it seems like those are rarely replaced since they rarely go bad but i think one of mine could be bad so i am in search of just one jet, minus the needle and clip since that is new already. also since i took the carbs off and the bike is OOC i figured i would change the oil and fix the stator oil leak. so now i am waiting a needle jet and 2 new gaskets for the stator and clutch, then i hope and pray the oil leak will be gone along with the rich cylinder. but here is the thread that i used as a reference incase anyone else is having the same problem. the originator said he replaced all 4 and it made a HUGE improvement on the carbs and tuning.

Actually, they go bad at surprisingly low mileage on the pre-77 carbs, but most folks don't realize it. You'd be money ahead if you'd replace all four needle jet sets - both jet and needle.

If you can get the original Keihin jets and needle that is fine and all.
Unless your main needles are bent you should reuse those, the Keyster needles have a very different taper than the Keihin needles.

thanks for the input guys, today i ordered 2 rebuild kits and i will plan on using the needles in the carbs already since i believe they are keihin, but  i really dont want to replace all 4 of those needle jets, i was going to just replace 1 and call it good, and now ill have an extra on hand but maybe ill just do all 4 while they are off, it just kills me to buy rebuild kits for just that one little piece. i ordered 2 kits today so maybe ill order 2 more to day and just do it right

  • Shut up when you're talkin' to me!!
As already mentioned....you don't wanna use the needles and jets out of the rebuild kits unless they are Honda kits. You can buy Honda needles and jets seperately allthough they are pricey but will work better than aftermarket. I was told on this forum many times that you can use the kits but re-use the stock needles and jets........get new ones from Honda if you feel that the old ones are worn. Also......Keyster kits have a bad rep. here. I got K&L (i believe thats what they were) from Dennis Kirk and was told they are good kits.

  • Bought her new 4/75
If you are using aftermarket carb parts I'd strongly suggest doing all 4 so they will match. I've taken my new aftermarket carb parts out and re-installed my old Honda parts and it ran better afterwards.

#1: check the number of holes in the emulsifier on your new pilot jet(s). The ones I have been getting for the last 18 months are short one "pair" of holes. Drill your own thru, if they are missing, or that one cylinder will run richer than the others for the same air screw setting. ;)

very good idea Hondaman i would have overlooked that completely, in the next few days i have some parts trickling in, so when i get into the carbs i will double check those. thanks for the info! you rock!
