I will have to say, though, the profile of that seat looks awfully like the 1979 CB650's seat...

Several years ago I made a nice leather seat that I suppose is fairly Corbin-esque.  I took a stock seat pan, stripped and painted it, then built up the foam.  Foam is easy to shape if you sand it.  I like to use a large sanding disc attached to my electric drill.  It makes it easy and fast.  This was my first leather seat to make, so it is not perfect, but it is OK.  Practiced making the pattern for the leather several times with paper grocery bags, and when I thought I finally had it right I used them to cut the leather and then sewed it all up.  I had a "real" job at the time so it took me about three weeks of evenings to complete it, and that included lots of back tracking and repeated work.  The best thing is that the wife finds it tolerably comfortable – even for long distances.  I have since made a few seats and have learnt a quite a bit since this first one, and now I am seriously considering taking this one apart and redoing it a little better and trying to make it a little more comfortable.

A close up of the seat detail.  I planed and sewed it.  It is black leather with a red leather detail.  The seat is neat.  I laid the foam so that it actually is a secure sit for my lover back there.  There is firm foam that slants forward toward me.  Then there is lighter foam on top of that which easily collapses.  I added the leather “Rising Sun” detail for two reasons – I thought it would look cool, and also because I wanted a little extra texture back there for her little butt to stick to!  What is most important is that she likes it and we can go hundreds of miles – all day – on it and still feel human when we park..

This basically is how I laid the foam.  The black is the metal seat base and the colors are progressively more stiff foam.  The top (yellow) layer is very light foam.  My goal was to have firm foam angle up in the back that would keep my passenger from sliding off the rear, even though the seat shape makes it look like they should slide off....

I hope this gives you good thoughts about how you would make your own!

Your passenger is 8 years old?  Has the worlds tiniest butt?  I don't care how good looking you are, my wife won't get on that thing!

Anyway- a couple more hints; an electric bread knife is great for major shaping.  Go to an auto uhpolstery shop for foam- the stuff you get in futon shops is too soft.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!
