I never had any luck with those either. search ebay for " bar end mirror adapter" and that same very style in your picture will come up.

The type that I found to work very well used rubber that expands inside the bar as you tighten the bolt. Here is a link to an ebay auction, just for reference. I'm not saying ebay is the only source but here's a photo of the type Im referring to.

Hope that helps.

Get creative with searching, saves time and you get some cool ideas

I personally give my metal ones a single wrap with electrical tape so when it expands it grips better (in my mind atleast ::))
It stripped because you tightened it too much, they snug up easier than it seems

Is the cone shaped piece aluminum? If there is no tabs or lips on it I could make steel ones.. If you can measure the angle fairly accurately.

+1 on wrapping them. 754 they are aluminum and are a bugger. I actually abandoned them inside on my bike and clamped them on the clip-on bar.

You'll probably have to re-tap the expander, wrap them with plastic electric tape, then try again. I'd use some blue LocTite on them when re threading inside the bar end. Seems to be more of a problem not with the expander, but the diameter of the bar end which is not "universal" for this type of fixture.

Just pick up a set of CRG mirror mounts. They are the original developer and IMHO are the best made. I used them for years on a GB500 and never had a single problem or loose mirror... http://www.constructorsrg.com/mirrors/adaptor.html  RR

LOL!

+1 on just clamping them at the end of the handle bar. That's what I ended up doing.

The original ones I got with my bar ends just had a piece of rubber hosing/tube with a nut and bolt. I had to change it with some oil hose that was a bit bigger/small (don't remember which). As the nut is tightened it compresses the hose to expand.

Thanks for the responses.  I may just look for bar ends with the rubber expander and give that a shot.

With the aluminum collar versions you have to bend the ends out and preload them to fit the bar so they are snug fit tapped home or they don't expand correctly. Otherwise it just damages the collet part and they don't work...just spins...
Takes some trial and error to get it right.

I have had multiple cheapy mirrors on my CB450 cafe and none of them will stay put or tight. I got irritated and welded a threaded bung into the ends of the bars. this solved the problem for me. Or at least them coming loose now they just break due to fatigue from people brushing up against them and vibration...
