Can I remove this?
« on: December 02, 2013, 12:06:11 PM »
Hi all,
Quick question about removing the cover on the side of the cylinder. I looked at the parts diagram and it shows 2 O-rings behind it. Is this cover holding oil back? Can I just pull it off to polish it without opening up a can of worms? Thanks

Yes you can . I remove mine on my 550 .The screws where really tight and slightly corroded . Use a high quality impact bit and a heavy hammer . If you have a micro torch heat them up and then try to loosen them .

Have you ever tried using a hammer drill? I don't currently have an impact driver. And/or do you have one that you recommend? Thanks

Never tried a hammer drill .I do own one . Go to Sears , get the highest quality bits they have there are three sizes  . Stay away from harbor freight bits . I have had Craftsman bits for years . If one breaks you can exchange them . The bits I have are black ones in a chrome body P-2 and P-3 are the part numbers.

What do you mean left and right? As in side specific, or reverse threaded?

Thanks for the tip on the impact driver...

Use JIS bits or you will most likely strip them using Phillips bits.
