Snap ring plier set..
« on: December 04, 2013, 04:12:10 AM »
Or as some might call it a retaining ring plier.

Anybody run across a set they would recommend? Would like to add a good set to the tool box.

Now seems to be the sales and I usually buy a few tools this time of year.

Thanks in advance.

Got this set a couple of years ago have broke a tip yet on some pretty stuck rings.

Got these for the bike last year. have held up so far but have only used them a couple of times. Reach is perfect for the master cylinder.

Hi.I have a pair of external and internal snap ring pliers from the Kowa Seiki Co.I have had them since the mid 70's and they are still available.I would highly recommend these. This company supplies many of the special tools for the Japanese motorcycle industry and have a warehouse in the Los Angeles area.

I got this http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-professional-retaining-ring-pliers-internal-external/p-00947412000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2 after borrowing one at the track. Work well and the price is right.
I got these couple of year ago and they are nice! If you have giant hands like me, you will appreciate how big these are.

Yeah, been looking at the Craftsman set of three. Waiting to see if they come down a bit. The Snap On's speak for themselves but pricey for as much as I would use them.

Thanks guys. Keep the links coming.

A lot of Sears stores are closing so they might be having some decent sales.

Hazet made a very nice one for working on Honda master cylinders.
May be discontinued, but you may find one on ebay..

The auto store set with the tiny interchangeable tip inserts suck b@lls.

I have one of these on order with the interchangeable jaws.
Same as the bikemaster brand, but half the cost, and at only $7, i'll give them a shot.

I had a set of those. Can't remember where they came from but they are not good.
They are somewhat usable for small stuff. These are not durable and the removable part will fly off if enough force is applied.

I second the Craftsman set. They haven't let me down yet. And for $25, why hesitate?

I had a set of #$%*ty chinese ones I bought from Checkers, the pliers itself BENT on the first use. Worst $8 I've ever spent, but at least I got a refund.

+1 on that idea.  I have a cheap HF set and I grinded the sides down so I can get that master cylinder snap ring out.

Just a reminder to all, good tools don't come cheap.

If it's a bit more expensive, there is a reason......

I believe all the Honda special tools were made by Kowa.  I still have every Honda special tool I bought back in the 70s and all are still like new and fully functional...Larry

I bought a Motion Pro long-nosed, 90° internal plier from Amazon. It stated that it was a replacement for the Kowa tool so I sprung for it even though I'm sure the original would be better if I could find it and had the cash for it. Either way I'm not doing too many master cylinders so this tool coupled with my interchangeable snap ring set has been great.

What a joke. These Clowns at USPS can't seem to get a package to you in a timely matter.

Bought that nice MAC snap ring plier set and shipped on 11/29. Went from Florida to Cali and left there two days ago. Lets see. It's now December 18.

Good job! No wonder I use FedEx or UPS.
