All this talk of JIS from grown men is... disturbing  :D

Thought you guys might find this interesting. Unbolting the breather cover and this came out. I was like :o

This particular bolt was loose.

I think I'll start a separate thread on rebuilding this top end, would like some opinions on what I'm seeing it's the first time I'm doing this.
Be glad that was loose, If you had to have used an impact to get that out it would have sheared off and then your fun  would really have started.

Here's the Vessel impact driver including JIS tips.  Not cheap.  I bought one and I think it's worth the money.

Oh don't worry, I'm sure I'll have plenty of fun before this bike is on the road  ;)

when you reassemble any 6mm bolts/screws ignore any torque settings and just nip them down plus a little more, clear any blind holes out by poking around in them with a screw driver/coat hanger wire and compressed air.

Yes a #3 phillips bit fits perfect.

Most people do not know HOW to use the impact driver.

You must place the impact driver on the screw and push down and turn in the direction to loosen AT THE SAME TIME. Otherwise you must put a load on the screw THEN hit the driver with a small ball peen hammer.

Before you attempt o loosen the screw, just tap the stop of the screw with the small ball peen hammer to loosen the molecular bonding the screw has in the threads.
