75 cb750f wheel on gl100 forks???
« on: December 07, 2013, 10:42:24 AM »
Just like the tittle says. Can I use 75 cb750f wheel on the 77 gl1000 forks?
Will the twin rotors fit on the 750f's hub?

I know a hub swap is possible but I am running Lester mags.

The brakes are frozen on my 750, and I have a chance to grab a whole 77 gl1000 for cheap.

So The wheel will fit. But the gl rotor won't button up to the 750 wheel?

Drill the rotor? Sigh...

I need breaks and figured if this all worked I'd get an upgrade too. Hmmm. I really dig my mags.

Other wise the hunt for stock brakes.

I also think the GL rotors are offset more than the CBs. The GL forks are about 2" wider. I think the GL and CB rotors were drilled the same to mount on the rim but different offset!

Would it bee to sketchy to add longer bolts and spacers on the rotor?

Bummer.

I mean... $100 for a complete GL1000 is a great deal.

I'm not sure why you would want to use the F wheel anyway. The '75 F would be a single front disk with a steel rim and the '77 GL1000 is a double disk aluminum wheel.  The 750F didn't get twin front disks until the switch to Comstar wheels in '77.

I know the 75/76 GLs had aluminum D.I.D. rims.and can polish up very nice!! You could swap rims out so they both match!!

If I didn't have these Lester's I would use the GL rims. I like the low maintenance of these mags.

Basically I need to replace all the brakes. Complate fusion.  FUBAR.

I "Had" a chance to grab a complete GL.

Ah, that would make sense. You didn't mention the Lesters, which I believe support 2 disks, and if they don't Goldwing Lesters will.

That's a great idea Danny. I hope the GL Lester's are the same style.
I keep my eye open for a front one. I suppose until then ill just go stock until I find the right buy.

Thanx fellas.

I'm not sure about the '75-'76 f bike hubs, but I know early 750k(71-76) and gl1000 hubs are identical.  Just bolt the rotors, speedo drive and axle (and spacer/s?) from the gl on to your lester and it drops right into the gl1000 forks perfectly.  Not sure why someone has not pointed this out already.
If it works good, it looks good...

Here you go, someone in the for sale thread selling GL1000 Lesters. Maybe he would trade the 750 Lester for the GL, although I think the CB version is worth more.
