So I was having difficulty getting the timing right on my bike. I tried every trick I could find on the forums, then realized it's because my points/condensers were made by Daiichi, and they just make crap. I was told to just buy the whole points plate assembly direct from Honda because it was the most cost effective. Well, I called my local Honda parts desk and sure enough the points assembly is no longer available, but I can still buy all the parts individually.
I went to pick up the points today, made sure they weren't Daiichi, and forked over $80!! Crazy, but it usually pays to buy quality. So now I have good points but before I install them, and possibly burn out another set of plugs, I want a good set of condensers as well. Now, everything I've read on the topic really focuses on the importance of getting the OEM points, but it seems it's a little more relaxed for the condensers.
Have you guys had decent experiences with aftermarket condensers? Hondaman has said that even the Daiichi's can be OK, but sometimes have issues, well mine did. I'm not going to buy Daiichi again, but are there any other options for condensers? The Honda shop wants another $70 for the condensers, do I need to bite the bullet again? There are some used points assemblies on eBay, do OEM condensers fail often or would a used set be ok? I've also seen mention of Hondaman's ignition - it seems to be around the same price as OEM condensers but doesn't use condensers and lengthens the life of the points.. Does anyone have any info/input on that?
Thanks dudes.
