Tank Badge touch up
« on: October 08, 2014, 02:26:10 PM »
CB 550 K2  Now I have one badge with portions of the white paint chipped off. Any idea's to paint? Model paint comes to mind, hobby paint brush? Qtip? Probably repaint the whole badge due to original paint fade. thanks

testors model paint and small art brushes.
I sprayed mine white, and then brush filled the borders with black.  came out nice.

I used black and white Testors paint and these "brushes" from Hobby Lobby.  These brushes are awesome.  They carry as much or as little paint as you want.  Also used a tooth pick in the super small areas.  See before and after pictures.

I did some of my badges using testors paint and flooding the cavities with a small syringe. worked great! I just couldn't get it with a brush i was constantly trying to wipe off excess and making a mess.

I tried the testors paint only to find I needed multiple coats to get the opacity right; I like Garage-Guy's idea of flooding the cavity. I ended up chipping off as much old paint as possible, cleaned with rubbing alcohol and used a nice water based acrylic paint with a 00 or 000 brush.

On my K1 I had a couple of spots where the white paint had chipped off from the tank badges. I fixed it with nail polish. Cheap, glossy finish and pretty convenient to use. 8 years and counting.

In fact, I used nail polish to completely paint the CB350 badges. As it takes a while to dry, if you apply a generous layer you can get that "enamel" finish. Just have at hand cotton buds and polish remover in case you take the brush out of the desired area.

I use black nail polish quite often to touch up scratches and the like in part such as frame, seat pan etc.
