Well, Im back from vacation. Missed riding and working on my bike.

Good news is that I was able to get that o-ring out of the float bowl. I soaked the float bowl upside down in some "Gasket Sealer" for a week. It worked! Softened up the o-ring just enough to dig it out.

So next round of parts are on order also. Going to find a powder coating service to do the front rim and rear hub. Then its off to Buchanans

I didn't buy from DCC, but they look like the ones I used. I took out the rubber liner so they would fit the 50 MM stanchions of the fork tubes. I also had to drill out the rubber grommets on the ears to fit the larger bolt for the bucket. I also had to go with different bolts to the bucket due to the thicker grommets. I found the hardware at Ace.

You bet Man.

Right now, I am putting together Carb #1. I am going to polish the float bowls and the top caps. I soda Blasted the body. Dipped it in my High Octane cocktail, then blowed it out with compressed Air to ensure all is clean. Pics soon to come.

Question:

I am assuming the Air Idle adjustment is the one on the bottom of the Carb? Pics to come. I bottomed it out, then did 1.5 turns out. Needle is in the second clip from the top. Exact same location when I took it apart.

I will be running a Mac 4 into 1 exhaust, Uni Foam Pods, stock Ignition, and just run the motor as is.
So before I go any further on the carb build, Should I change out the jets also?

Just looking for some guidance from you fine people.

As Promised. Some pics.
Finally got the front rim torn down. So I will send this off to powder coat:


And pics of the carb build. here is a idea of what I had to start with:

This is the number 2 carb.

Here is Number 1 carb after soda blasting:

And that's after dipping it in a cocktail and using compressed air to dry.

And what needle jet is this?

The Screw driver is pointing to it. It is accessible from the outside after the float bowl is on. This is the one I bottomed out then did 1.5 turns out. I believe this is the one everyone is talking about. I did refer to me FSM manual I downloaded. But that manual refers to a completely different set of carbs.

And this is the float bowl after a round of buffing. I then put a thin coat of clear on it just to protect from Corrosion:

So question still stands on:
the external adjustment screw?
Also, How to adjust float bowl hight? I have a tool in the mail for this.
Jet size for my set up as described above?
What is the lower needle screw that goes in the float bowl do?

Ok, I figured how to adjust float bowl hight. Problem is, the tool I ordered is for a different type of floats. So, not sure what to do.

Had to source out the rest of my questions. Hope to get a response soon. So, time to stop and research. I hope to get my answeres by the time the second carb is ready for assembly. But I believe the slow jet I found what it is, don't want to come out on first carb. And it feels glogged up. tested it by poking a sewing needle into it. I my have found a little road block.

Positives: Parts are coming in. Ordered up my front wheel fender today. front rim and rear hub off to powder coater's on Wednesday.

Any input would be greatly appreciated people.

The part your screwdriver is pointing to is the idle jet. It should be fully seated not screwed out 1.5 turns. The idle mixture screw should be accessible from the outside of the carbs. I'm not sure exactly where it is on this particular style of carbs but you should be able to access it with the carbs on the bike.

***On second glance*** - That does appear to be the idle mixture screw. I now see the idle jet right next to the main jet (sort of blended into the background the first time I looked). I now also see that the float bowl goes around it so it would be accessible when the bowls are on.

I'm definitely not familiar with that style of carbs!

To try to answer some of your questions:

-The main jet is the large one in the center. It is the primary controller of fuel above 3/4 throttle.
-The idle jet is the smaller brass piece on a shorter boss right next to the main jet. Its main contribution of fuel control is from idle to 1/4 throttle.
-The jet needle/needle jet (not shown) is a tapered needle that slides in and out of a matching tapered hole which is directly linked to throttle position (moves up and down with the slides). As the tapered needle is pulled out of the hole it creates a larger and larger orifice for fuel (which is coming from the main jet and passing through to the carb throat) to pass through thus creating a variable orifice. This is how the fuel is transitioned between the idle jet (idle to 1/4 throttle) and the main jet (3/4 to WOT). The effect of the needle jet is dominant from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle.
-The idle mixture screw (screwdriver is pointing to it) meters the amount of fuel (or air in some types of carbs) that is allowed to pass to the idle jet. This just gives a fine adjustment for idle air:fuel ratio. Coarse adjustment is done by swapping out the idle jet itself for another size.

To adjust the float height:
-With the float hinge facing upwards, rotate the carb assembly until the float bowl tang comes into contact with the end of the fuel needle. This is the angle at which the height of the float must be measured.
-Measuring perpendicular to the float bowl gasket face, the distance between the bottom of the float and the float bowl gasket surface should be as per the dimension in the manual (I don't know what the value is?)
-The height is adjusted by gently bending the float tang (brass arm that makes contact with the end of the fuel needle).

I used a small square to measure float height. Took a bit guessing/extrapolation, but it seemed to do the job. Only cost me a few dollars at Princess Auto  (Canadian Harbor Freight. )

IW, Thanks. This now leads to another question for the low idle jet. How the hell I get that bugger out!! I ended up dissassembling the entire carb back down to the body. Preparing to dip again in the cocktail. I do have a heat gun.
-Does it screw in?
-Does it press in?

I really got to remove it to ensure a complete cleaning.

#2 Carb will start to recieve its 3rd stage of soaking tonight when I get home.

D-Ral, Thanks for that info. I already have some ideas I will try to get float level. The only problem on getting that value, the FSM only gives a value for the older style carbs.

Some idle jets are press in and some are screw in. I don't see any type of screw driver flats on it so I'm guessing it's press in. You may want someone to verify that though first. lol

To remove a press in jet you could use a pair of vice grips or pliers with a piece of leather or something in between to help protect it. Pull firmly while you gentle twist back and forth.

I contacted Brian over at DCC. He is going to research and hopefully get back to me if its a Press or Theaded. But you make sense about the Press in due to no signs of using a tool to Thread in/out.

Well, I finally talked to a member on here. He gave some advice on how to do it. And they popped right out!! Now to go find some slow jets to replace those gunked up ones.

Im going up to 45's. That's one size up according to the hopping up carbs guide. Now to figure out the mains jetting.

You bet.

I got that on a different forumn. So I posted it here for you all to use.

Got my Mac 4 into 1 header and my front wheel fender. It is a GSXR front Fender.

The rear 550 hub and front rim are already at the powder coaters to get done up. Not to bad of a price. $285 flat rate. That includes:
De-chroming front rim
Cleaning.
Blasting.
Prep.
And gloss Black at 60%

I took in the Cognito hub to match up the amount of gloss to use.

Yes I am. Same user name. In the background is my TTF 2 seater I am building. Well, actually taking a break from it. Im about 90% complete on all the fabrication. About 65% complete on parts installed. I need to get all the guts for the front 60 build. Then I can get the front 2 piece Drive shaft built.

2.5 liter jeep 4 cylinder -intercooled turbo charged
NV3500 transmission
Stak Monster 3 speed w/5:1 low
Dana 60's front and rear 5:38's
Rear ARB
Front lockright maybe?
Full comp PSC hydro steering system

Yeah, I had a 91 yj... 3/4 tons, 4.3 atlas, 38's.  Sold it because there are no places to wheel in VB... and they closed Crozet.  So that's how I ended up with a CB.  Funny how much cheaper these parts are than the 4wd stuff.  I bought a torchmate when I was big into P4x4... still use it now... just on bikes... You're up in PA right?  Not quite sure we ever crossed paths.  I wheeled with the MD Creepers at Big Dogs a few times, ran pit crew for 2 cars at RCQ.

I know your feeling. Im down here in southern Arizona. It just seems that the hardcore crowd no longer exists. I had a 93 YJ on One tons, gears, 40's , turbocharged inline 6. Got rid of it, payed off some bills, and just got into the CB's after a tramatic personal event for therepy. And I just got hooked!! I know have 3 bikes!!

My brother inlaw said to keep all my tools which I still have. And the Engineer that built my rolling chassis said if I sold it, he would drive out to where I live and beat the snot out of me. I'll finish the buggy someday.

I still follow the Ultra4 stuff. Mainly Rick Moonyham. It just sucks when there are no hard core die hards to wheel with. Im tired of the primadonna jeep bolt on crowd. Some are cool, just not my scene. Im one of those people.

So, yea, its funny how life changes gears on us.

Thanks for the comments. I hope to pick up my parts from powder coating the end of this week. My front wheel fairing is already here. And more parts in the mail.

I had to order a set of slow jets and two sets of mains to match my engine set up. Im just hoping the 550 motor is good to go. I plan to just run new plugs, Ignition system from Honda man, Uni foam pods, 4 into 1 Mac system.

I think my 750 needs the engine to be gone through.

So, Im still waiting on my parts from Powder Coating. Still not done. Im slowly chugging away with the carbs. I am about to put number 4 back together. I was able to start number 3 carb. And with that, I was able to start cleaning the long beam that rotates the carb sliders. Not sure what the tech term for it. Pics to come when I can.

This entire week, I have to wake up at 3 am every morning for work. Just to give you an idea of my schedule.

So I got some parts back. It cost me a bit more then I thought:

So now everything will match. I really can't wait till I get these laced up!! Already have my eyes on the tires. That's the last thing I need to get is tires then the wheel set is complete.

Started de-lacing the rear wheel. I was able to get 37 out of 40 nipples removed. Three where giving me a hard time. They did not want to leave their homes:

That's ok, I'll introduce those 3 individuals to me 4.5" angle grinder.

Also got my replacement brake and clutch levers. Im keeping that a secret on the color when all is done. I also was able to get matching bar ends.

Now I had to clear the bay, re-arrange some things and clean the bay out. I just got done doing a needed service on my truck. next weekend, the car comes in for its 30K service and some mods.

Be patient with me please. Long build.

Cool build. I'm starting on a 500 that I've had for a year and haven't touched yet.  My trail rig Scout has been sitting for so long I've lost count of the years it's been sitting.  I'll be keeping an eye on this since there are so many 750 builds.

Hey Redrider. I am recovering from a move. financially, I am on hold for everything. Plus I decided to add to the chaos and bought my dream car. Not that it helps. I hope to get back on it sometime next month.

Still need to finish repair work on my trailer.
Need to build a wooden bench for the new place Im in.
I no longer have a 1000 sq/ft shop. Just a 2 car garage now.
Gotta find a location for my camper.

I havn't bought nothing for this build. the next steps was rear sets with linkage or get the wheels laced up and done.(wheels and hubs still in boxes)

The front stanchions are 50MM I want to say. I believe I posted a link somewhere in my build for the headlight ears to get. I'll get some numbers this weekend.
