Anyone have a nice shiny sunrise orange part to send me so my painter can match?

I think he slacking due to the fact that he has to follow a house of color recipe and it would be much easier to match something with his PPG system.

Get one of the available kits for your painter. Does he realize it is a 3 step process vs laying one coat? Silver base, flake sunrise orange color, decals and clear.

I don't want to order a kit because I've had problems with them. Also, the painter doesn't prefer to use kits (I wasted $200 last time on something he didn't use). My painter prefers to use his own PPG system.

We're well aware that Sunrise is a multiple-part mix. He's got the ingredient list which is suppose to be pretty accurate.

The problem is that the ingredient list we have calls for a house of color system. He has to leave work to go to the paint shop, order the parts, and follow instructions using a system that he may/may not be used to using. I think this is why he's been procrastinating. If I were to bring him in an actual Sunrise Flake Orange panel, I think he will be able to match it with his own system and I know that he would rather prefer that. Probably would be cheaper for me as well.

That's exactly what he's going off of. I even emailed a professional painter that has done sunrise and have confirmed that what you posted is 100% valid to reproducing Sunrise Orange Flake.

The issue is that his Body Shop is really finicky on what they use (they only use high-end PPG systems). They actually like House of Kolor and don't mind using it, but when they use that system it's a lot more work for them since they don't supply it in-house. He's doing this job basically free for me (I'm only paying materials), so it's a lot of effort for him to leave his paid job during the day and go to the paint supply store to have this stuff ordered and work through the details of the ingredients. The painter has asked me a few times that if I have a Sunrise panel he could replicate it and he prefers that. That would save him a lot of time.

The VMR kit uses Dupont which is not as high of quality as what they use. Coming straight from my painter, and I do believe him. The last time I bought a VMR kit to find that the painter didn't want to use it, and that's where I lost $200.

Marblesmotors I believe uses PPG to mix their Sunrise Orange, so that's always an option to buy their kit as long as the painter approves the type of PPG paint system they use. Usually mixers are very "secretive" about what they use, and no way in hell will they give the PPG codes to replicate it (I asked and even got scolded by the guy from MarblesMotors even though I have given them hundreds of dollars on other purchases).

Just trying to make the life of my painter as easy as possible. It's also been two months since I dropped off my "ready to paint" panels and I'm actually getting ready to complete my "Sunrise" project.

I figured if someone has a sunrise flake side cover or any other body part that I could borrow I could bring that to him to "jumpstart" his progress.

There is nothing really all that special about PPG paint, except that your painter's shop has a deal with his paint supplier to use it.

Except then it would cost money. I only pay for materials @ shop price with him...even if I have to wait longer. It's a special deal, and it's one of the best shops in town. I find the $500 + savings worth the wait because he does no less than "perfect." Makes everything like glass. I never expect him to colorsand, but he does it anyways!

Keep in mind it's about 10F here with snow covering the ground. It's not like I can ride the bike for another couple months anyways, but I'm just getting a little antsy to see the final outcome.

I worked my arse off day and night to prep those panels before the winter season, which is when body shops get insanely busy. I had the panels off to him on about October 14th. First snowfall here was December 6th.

Procrastinator is probably not the right word. This is a side project for him at work which I worked through the shop owner to get. When you have collisions to work on, you have to do those first as that makes the shop money. Mine's a freebie. But damn, I felt like I held my end of the bargain by getting him the panels early.

Oh, well you dint say it was a freebie!    Go to the PPG paint store and look at the books, you'll find one that is very close. 

(I did that to find the Polynesian Blue that I had my tank painted)

If you find a panel to use and it is original wouldn't the paint be faded and give a wrong code?

That's what I was thinking too Johnie...you're matching something that is years old so it's probably not going to be exact. Good call as it would probably need to be a near-new panel.

Steve- Problem with looking through a PPG book is I don't know truly know how Sunrise orange looks except from pictures I've seen of it. There's probably an infinite amount of orange shades so me picking something close probably would be sketchy at best.

Sounds like it's probably best to wait it out and let him follow the recipe.

A suggestion: got to the paint store and use the provided recipe to get small samples of the paint. Have him do a spray out, then he can use that to determine the formula with PPG. Works every time when a painter/customer wants an unknown color.
