Looks great. Given me ideas for my K7 build. I like the seat you chose, homemade or did you buy it?

When you say seat i'm assuming you mean the "cafe" tail section? Yes i did make it. I made a 1/4 inch round bar "frame" and then covered it in sheet metal. I wanted to mirror that (not so pretty) K7 tan by using 5 panels. The main focus was having a flat top to mirror the flat top of the tank.

Taking shape. That's a cool looking bike mate, well done.

If I had to take issue with any of it, not that I have a right to, it'd be the seat. The old form over function debate. My sorry ass needs some padding under it!

Thanks!  And you totally correct, I've not covered the seat pan yet. If you look closely the dimpled portion is a flat pan that also goes up the 'slope' of the tail section. That'll be padded and coved with leather eventually. All the pretty stuff comes last  ;)

very nice a good look for the k8 tank that I usually don't like I have a k8 as well.what kind of battery and where are you putting it?bill

I'll be using an Antigravity battery. Ive designed that tail section to hold the battery, fuse box, reg/rec, and other odds. Nothing is by accident.

and i agree, not a pretty tank. But it's rust free and i'd rather use that than battle with a rusty and leaky F/ sub K6 tank just for the look. ;)

When you say that you made a "1/4 inch round bar frame" I assume it's separate from the hoop welded on the back. It would be great if you could post some details/pics.
Thanks

Yah totally. The frame hoop i bent out of 1 inch tube that i welded to the bike frame. The tail section i made using thin round bar (1/4 inch). Hard to describe. It's the same basic process (Dustin) Kott Motorcycles does his bikes.   I'll try and find some pics.

Thanks would appreciate it and KOTT sure builds some awesome bikes. My favorite is the black CB750 cafe with the copper rims and accents.

BC, I just went to Kott's website and found a link to the 3 videos he did on how to build a cafe seat. That's one interesting way of building a seat and now understand what you did.

Different for sure. I tried in fiberglass first and did not like how organic it looked (not precise enough).

BC if you don't mind I've got a few questions. Here I go, what you use to bend the 1/4 round bar to the shape you wanted, did you build an entire sub-frame from the round bar and how is it fastened to the back section/hoop? Thanks for the help blue collar.

I used a "ring roller" to make the frame for the tail section. Then i welded a tab to the rear of the frame hoop and used a bolt to fasten in from underneath. The front portion is bent sheet metal and fastened under the seat with "jack nuts" very hard to explain, any not the lightest set up but it worked. Clean lines were more my focus than saving a few grams here and there.

Ring roller

i'll grab you some pics tomorrow night if you want to try this process.

The first shot shows how a bent section of sheel metal goes under the factory seat cross member and is fastened with jack nuts and c/s screws.

the second photo shows my battery/electrical pan. The olty in the center/rear screw goes through a tab welded on the frame and threads into a portion of the tail itself. It's not quick release by any means; but three screws and the tail section is off revealing the battery and electrical components.

maybe not the best way, but the best i can come up with with limited time, money, and tools.

Great work, bc.  Are you staying with a bare metal (clear coat) look or painting.  My vote is for clear to show off your work.

Thanks CB750C.R.F.

If my tank were free of dents and scratches it would leave it raw. The tail section is also not very true/clean and would look nicer finished. This was my first go at it. Next time i want to try it in Aluminum and will maybe leave it raw then :)

BC, started looking around for a ring roller here in the Montreal area and I'm all up for trying to build my own seat but the price they're asking I could almost have a custom made seat made. Any help where you got yours would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey gents!

Been a while and life is crazy busy but here is an update of the bike. Ready to hit the road after some carb tuning and a plate.

I'm not totally happy with the upholstery ( I stitched it by hand, no machine). It does not flow with the tail section as much as i would like. Maybe less padding in that section.

Still some wires to tuck and tidy.

It came out great, bc. I'm not sure if you mentioned it in the string but did you do any performance mods to the motor? I see that you went with CRs so I was curious.

No sadly, at the time of building the engine i did not do any mods, and it shows. The CRs dont run the smoothest at low RPM on a 736cc . Defintely over-carbed. I'll do my best to get them ridable for the summer and maybe 836 the engine over the winter.

I got a deal on the carbs that i couldn't pass up.

The CRs will definitely run better with a ported head, 836 and cam. You might run better for now on stock carburetors if you still have them. If not, no big deal. I ran my CR 29s before my engine rebuild.

What was your set-up (jets/needle) if you don't mind me asking.
