Here's a pic I took at Laconia in 74. Nixon eventually won, that's Gene Romero on the TZ, can you name the fellow behind? Shouldn't be too tough for the folks here.

Would that be Mr Roberts?

Yes, Laguna Seca, the back-side of the Corkscrew, to be exact. I've got a bunch more slides from that weekend that I've yet to scan.

Keep 'em coming Scott.

.  ...really wish I could contribute to this thread but I grew up at nightclubs, not race tracks...

A far more dangerous pastime in my opinion. :)

Yeah, TG that's Dave Aldana without his exoskeleton!

I like that pic Sam, very sheek monsieur flying his plane to the track where his aids have his bike waiting!

I'm not sure we're actually slower Simon, more likely just better cameras.  ;D

Here's "King Kenny" in the same race Bear, plus a guy I got to know some a year or two later, actually the year he was world champion. The 500 caught my eye that year because it was quite trick with it's dry sump.

Bet the stained tablecloths in the greasy bar have not been changed since  :)

Come on guys there must be some more pictures out there. I'm quite pathetic in the photo department, but Deb claims this is from my first race. Shoestring budget guys. I remember the second race it poured rain & I crashed...not once but twice. Remember this is her bike, not good.

On these early RD's we had to turn the footpeg bracket upside down over the pipes and reweld the peg bracket on for clearance. Otherwise they are a ton of fun without spending a fortune.

How did you get to know Baker Brent?

How did you get to know Baker Brent?

Hey Mike, Steve lived in Bellingham, Wa and at least early on, considered Westwood track in BC his home track. He became Canadian champion after Jimmy Allen (Dunlop tire fame) I believe, and with support from Yamaha Motor Canada & tuner Bob Work became quite succesful.

We'd see him at all the National rounds, but on occasion he'd even show up on Wednesday evenings to practise with us mere mortals.  8)  Good guy.

I remember one of these practise sessions I rounded a corner to see Steve come limping out of the brush waving his arms like mad. Turns out he crashed in a mess of oil left on the track and had the where-with-all to alert the rest of us.

Another race weekend the RCMP set up a radar gun to show the spectators what speeds were attained. After the hairpin up into the chicane Deb said I'd hit 62mph on her RD. On his TZ750 Steve would click off a 126 time after time, twice as bloody fast, in a spot that amazed me.  ::)

We had a local orchardist, ran a bevel 900 twin at. Westwood.. Its about 270 miles from here. I heard he would ride it down take off the lights and race..  Then ride it home...lol

You guys have inspired me to go digging for the photo album.  Here is a shot taken in 1975 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.  I had raced my 72 H2 Kawasaki in a production class at Summit Point in the fall of 1974 and was hooked.  Over the winter I found a TD2 Yamaha and started racing at Nelson Ledges and various ERA (predecessor to WERA) events.  On the left is my mother and on the right my father.  The couple are Friends from the neighborhood.  This was the first race my parents attended.  I am all of 20 years old and though I was hot stuff in my mesh muscle shirt.   8)  Twelve years later I retired from racing having ridden a series of Yamaha and Suzuki production racers.  Hard to believe that was nearly 40 years ago.  Still riding track days and sport touring with Friends made back then.  I'll pull some more photos out of the album and post them from time to time.
