Bultaco gas cap problem
« on: December 15, 2013, 05:18:04 PM »
Picked up a very nice Matador., but before I can take it to the bullfight, I need to put gas in it. Cap will not come off, it just turns and turns..
Like the fastener holding it together has loosened.
The only thing i can think of is to put gas in thru the petcock, it was dry and maybe a bit of oily gas , will allow the tangs to slide, or start moving.

Dont really want to wreck the cap, as it is quite nice.....any ideas ?

Not familiar with the later caps, I might have one if you bugger it up. Can you take a pic of it.

I will try to take a pic, same cap I think
 Saw something that may work..
Drill a small hole straight down, near outside of actual hole in tank. Then insert drill bit in hole, that should couple the cap to lower plate.., and allow tangs to rotate.
Then I got to fix that hole, but easier than trying to make a scraped up cap look good.

Beautiful Bul   Frank.  Try pushing down real hard  on the cap while turning  and have an L -shaped pick up under to try and catch the tangs...Larry

That's what I would suggest. That rear muffler spark arrestor is a very very part to find.
