UPDATED!! Hey! How come we didn't get these CB750's in the US?!?
« on: September 02, 2006, 08:05:02 PM »
Now, before you call me a total turncoat, let me just say I love my SOHC 550, ok?  I just also happen to like the styling of the DOHC CB's too.

So, after years of feeling like Honda really let us all down with the 1990's Nighthawk CB750 (with it's single front disc, crappy styling, etc.), I was blown away when I saw what everyone else outside of the US got when they wanted a 1990's CB750..  Check this bad boy out- I think it is called a CB750F2, this one a 1997 model:

WHOA!!  How can I get my grubby mitts on one of these!?  I think this is *THE* motorcyle I invisioned a modern day CB..  Not that enormous monstrosity CB1000, with it's liquid-cooled and de-tuned CBR1000 motor, but a real deal air-cooled modern CB750 that looks small enough that anyone under 6'8" could handle it!  I dare say I like the styling of this bike better than the current 919!!

So, if does this CB750 share any parts with the US "Nighthawk" CB750?  It's obvious the wheels and brakes (and gas tank/bodywork) are different, but the motor looks the same, and it looks like it might be the same frame too.  Anyone know anything about these non-US CB's?  If so, think a conversion would be possible, starting with a US CB750?  This would be my perfect fit for a second bike (next to my SOHC in the garage!)

You can have one of those for almost nothing here in Europe (at least i Sweden....).

They are used frequently as learner bikes so there is plenty of them floating around.

Get one on Ebay.de and import it to the US?

Search for "CB Sevenfifty" or "RC42".

Yes- I was thrilled when the CB1000 first came out, but then when I saw one in person the bubble was burst for me anyway..  Don't get me wrong- it's an awesome bike, but it is BIG..  I'm 6'0", and it made me feel like a 5'0" person must feel on a SOHC CB750..

Maybe I'm just getting wimpy in my old age (all of 33 years! hah!) but one thing I noticed when I got my CB550 is, coming from an '82 CB900F, I was shocked at how much more easier it is to handle on the 550!  The 900 would handle, but you had to be super pro-active about it, and literally muscle it around by it's collar.  The 550 in comparison is just so easy to manuever..  I wouldn't go so far as to say the 900 was intimidating, but the 550 is just more comfortable to drive..

BUT, I'm sure that it's not a fair way to compare bikes, just on how big they look- could be that the CB1000 betrays it's size once you sit on it..  Also, I've sat on the current Honda 919- and while I appreciate a naked bike in their lineup, the new liqud cooled motor and styling just looks too extreme for my tastes..  I haven't yet seen the 599 in person..

Hmm, sounds like there are a bunch of these bikes around in other countries..  How does one go about importing one here?  Is there more to it than just shipping it here, like then the title is concidered null and void, and I'd have to get more done then the standard new vehicle inspection type of deal?

Anyone know if there is an Aussie resource kinda like the online microfiche at crotchrocket.com, that I could use to see how many parts in common the CB750F2 has with the Nighthawk 750 we have in the states?

It looks like they share the frame, motor, electronics systems, and instruments.  Perhaps it would not be too complicated a swap to put the triple disc brakes, and better looking bodywork on..

I've also been looking to see if there is a Nighthawk 750 web forum page like we have the SOHC page here..  I'm not likely to be that lucky!  :)

Can't speak for the States, but to get a bike easily (and that's a relative term) into Canada it has to be at least 15 years old. Then the fun starts.....

Hmm.  Still researching this a bit..

I am wondering if someone that lives in a country where the RC42/CBsevenfifty/CB750F2N was imported to could help me out with a little info..  I am trying to find the part number of the frame of the RC42, so that I can compare it to the frame part number for the CB750 Nighthawk that we have here in the USA..

Here's my reasoning:  I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these bikes for a project bike.  If it is the same frame, then I could more easily find a Nighthawk here, and convert it to a RC42.  If not, I'll have to figure out how to import one of these bikes..

So, anyone have any links for a parts fiche type of site that has these non-US market motorcyles in it's database?  Or, the number for a parts department (that hopefully speaks English!)  So I could get this part number?

Thanks a million!!!

Read in a mag long ago that if you declare it as a race only its not to hard but just how much racing documentation you have to show is the prob.  Hell I'm a registered racer. Once its here you get it "registered" in some fashion.  Or as a parts bike?

be a shame if it accidently ended up with a United States VIN plate on it...  but.. sir, thats the way it was when I bought it..  buy a frame with a clean title off of ebay... there you go...

Cool bike. I'd be willing to bet the frame, etc is the same as the US model, simply with a different tank, seat, and fenders/side covers. Probably would be relatively easy to order the parts and put them on the US model.
